Downstairs Revamp

Jan 30, 2011

When we moved into our house the downstairs was a lovely shade of puke green.  I knew it HAD to go and gone it has! Because this room is quickly turning into a man cave/movie room/work out center, we wanted to go with a darker color. After much deliberation we settled on Valspars 'Gotham Gray' (4009-3). Its a nice navy blue with dark undertones.  We both really like the way it turned out and can't wait to do more work down there

What do you think??

Im planning painting the curtain rods and adding to/helping the window treatments that the last homeowners left down there.  Unfinished wood curtain rods and burlap are not really the look we are going for...

Barking Buddies Dog Biscuits

Jan 28, 2011

Its a little known fact that Floyd is a tad bit spoiled.  Not helping this situation at all is the fact that I make him his treats. I like to know what he is eating and making sure it's not a lot of processed gunk. Spoiled. I know.
He first had these treats when his Grammy Thomas made them for him and he fell in love! She has passed the recipe on to me and I make them about once a month or so for the little booger.
Here are a few photos of the batch I made recently and the recipe.
(P.S. the 'C' and 'T's shaped ones are for some of Floyd's friends he's going to see soon!)
I use cookie cutters to cut out shapes/letters...obviously you could cut them into bars but I like to think that Floyd appreciates eating something a little more exciting.

The ever faithful sous chef

Barking Buddies Dog Biscuits
2 cups whole wheat flour
1/3 cup cornmeal
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup molasses
2 eggs (beaten)
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp garlic powder
1/4 cup oats
2 tablsp vegetable oil
1/2 cup milk

1. Mix dry ingredients together
2. Stir in wet ingredients
3. Roll out on well floured surface to 1/2" thickness (heres where you can cut them into bars or shapes with cookie cutters)
4. Place on greased baking sheet and bake at 350 for 30 minutes
5. Turn oven off but leave biscuits in the oven for 20 minutes to harden
6. Serve to your best friend!!

Hope they enjoy!

Its that time of the week again! Gather 'round for the next installment of awkward and awesomes. Head over to The Daybook to see Sydney and check out some more awkward and awesomes from the week!

Awkward:

  • Women wearing bright red lipstick to the gym, really?
  • Having Bethany sign us in for spinning class only to find there aren't any bikes left
  • Muttering to myself in the grocery trying to calculate coupon deals
  • Socks NEVER matching up once they come out of the dryer.  Where do they go??

Awesome:
  • Dropping the grocery bag with the eggs in it and NONE of them breaking
  • The Mister telling me I look skinnier, score!
  • My gals are coming soon
  • Great workout with a great friend
Let's hear yours!

Easy Canvas Craft

Jan 23, 2011

I have been on the hunt for something to put over our bed for a while now.  I recently came across this phrase that I fell in love with.

(Not sure where I found this, sorry!)

The creative juices started flowing and I called my friend Maggie, (who has completed similar projects to perfection before), got some tips and headed to Hobby Lobby!

First I figured out what size canvas would be best over our bed and decided on a 30"x40" one.
I knew I wanted to stick with a neutral color for the background but I have also been trying to incorporate another color into our room and decided on a light teal color.  I believe it is called seaspray and was exactly what I was looking for!

I painted the canvas a mushroom brown color and let it dry over night.

Next I measured out the letters with stencils and made sure they were evenly spaced on the canvas.
I taped the stencils down, grabbed my foam brush and got to painting!

Here is the final product!
I really like the way it turned out.  And it doesnt (surprisingly) bother me that some of the paint went outside the stencil lines. I like that it seems a little rustic, that its not totally perfect and especially that its homemade :)
More pictures of the bedroom to come once I finish my next project!

Back to bed

Jan 18, 2011

Im not sure why this is so funny to me but it is.  Floyd has taken up the habit of going back to bed every. single. morning. As if, the entire day home alone isn't enough sleep for him. The boy is really growing up and really starting to turn into a true basset.

Just a little bit of Floyd humor for your day :)

Pom Pom Necklace

Jan 15, 2011

I first saw this necklace over at Little Miss Momma and knew I had to try it out!
It was SO easy to make and the choices of colors are endless.  I ended up using some discontinued fabric from work and a chain I got 40% off at Michaels...pretty good for an adorable addition to my accessory collection

First Sewing Success

I was so pumped to get a sewing machine for my birthday (thanks Mom!).  I have successfully created my first project and have a laundry list of ones I want to do next.  Pillows for our bed!   My next plan is to make shams and then window treatments. However,  I may need to get a few other projects under my belt before I tackle the window treatments...those seem a little daunting...

I think Mamaw would be proud of my new skills :)
