Fridays with Floyd: Love for Papa

Sep 30, 2011

This is how I found the Mister and Floyd the other morning.
They are quite the lovers.
(I had to cover Floyd's privates...no one really wants to see that)
I'm actually a little scared about what goes when I'm not around...
I think it involves A LOT of wallering and belly rubs.

Floyd sat like this for 5+ minutes.
If you rub his chest he will do anything.

These 2 boys have the softest and warmest bellies EVER.
Perfect for snugglin.

Weekend Wrapup: Chautauqua

Sep 26, 2011

Every fall Madison, IN (my hometown) sponsors a fabulous art and craft show called Chautauqua.
Madison closes off the streets of downtown and vendors set up booths up and down the  both sides of the street.
My mama and I have been going to this festival for as many years as I can remember.
We love to venture up and down the streets and look at everyone's fabulous crafts.
I love this tradition of ours and look forward to it every year.

We typically knock out a lot of Christmas presents during this shopping trip.
This year we didn't luck out at much but we did get some goodies.

One of my (and the Mister's) favorite parts of Chautauqua is the FOOD.
Fresh kettle corn, candied nuts, pumpkin EVERYTHING.
And the list goes on and on.
I think this year we spent more money on food than we did anything else.

My favorite purchase was a candy corn wood piece I got for our front year.
And it was only $7!
And has glitter on it!
Why, yes, that is a concrete basset in our front yard...
And that is Floyd in the doorway...he is never more than 2 steps behind me at any moment.

What did you do this weekend?

Fridays with Floyd: MBF No More

Sep 23, 2011

Ever since we have had Floyd, he and I have spent every Friday together.
The Mister and I began to affectionately call these days Mama/Bud Fridays or 'MBFs'.
I looked forward to these Fridays every week.
Sure we spend the weekends with Floyd but, sometimes those are full of errands and busyness.
Fridays were my day to just spend one on one time with Floyd.
(Yes, I'm clearly aware I'm talking about a dog who has no idea what day of the week it is).
However, part of me thinks he at least knew there was a day a week that it was just me and him.

Now that I have started my new job, MBF's are no longer. :(
Even though I was ecstatic to learn that I had a new job, part of me was sad to not spend my Fridays with Bud anymore.

The Mister told me that Floyd did seem a bit confused last Friday when I left for work.
And that just about broke my heart.
But don't worry, Floyd and I talked about everything and although he's not happy about it, he understands.
I told him that if Mama works more that means she has more money to buy him jerky and peanut butter.
That seemed to make things okay in his book.
As for me, I just try to give the little booger as much love and as many kisses as I can each evening and on the weekends.
He seems to be handling it alright.

 Love you Bubby!!

La Poste

Sep 22, 2011

As I said yesterday, the Mister took me to dinner last weekend to celebrate my new job.
We ventured to Clifton to try out La Poste which we had heard many good things about.

I am a huge fan of trying new restaurants.
Actually, I am a huge fan of eating and trying out new restaurants just happens to fall into that same category.
Because we had heard such great reviews on La Poste I was thrilled to try it out.
Besides, who doesn't love a good date night?

As soon as we walked in the door, a waiter whizzed past us carrying a delicious looking burger.
The Mister was immediately sold.

La Poste has a unique 'postal' theme going on throughout their space.
It is a very subtle but also unique while giving the space character.
The napkins are folded like letters (which I thought was adorable) and the bill is presented in a small manila envelope.
The menu is divided up into sections such as: postage and salutation.

As I said, the Mister went with the burger and the pommes frites.
I decided to go with the mushroom ravioli.
We ended our meal with the (delicious) apple and pear crisp.
We were too busy devouring our (small) plates of food to remember to take any pictures. Sorry!

Overall the Mister and I gave La Poste a 78%.
The food was very good but not great.
The wait staff were nice and very knowledgeable and the atmosphere quaint.

But most importantly, we had a very nice time at our dinner together and enjoying each others company :)

We are dorks and just took pictures of one another
rather than asking someone to take ours.

As the lady sitting next to us said when she was leaving...
'This was nice and all but, I don't think I'll be coming back.'

What I Wore Wednesday: Week 9

Sep 21, 2011

Happy WIWWednesday to everyone!

Here are two outfits from last week.
This first get up is a work outfit.

Dress: H&M, Cardigan: The Limited, Belt: NY&Co., Shoes: Belk

This second is a date night outfit :)
The Mister took me out to dinner on Friday to La Poste to celebrate my new job!
Dinner review coming tomorrow.

Skirt: Kohls, Shirt and wedges: Target, Necklace: Coldwater Creek

The Mister think it is hysterical to make sure Floyd is in every outfit picture he takes.

I am in desparate need of some new loafers and/or flats to wear to work.
My $20 from Target that I bought 3 years ago seem to be dying...
If anyone comes across some cute ones let me know!

Weekend Wrapup: Indy

Sep 20, 2011

We had another whirlwind weekend but this time it all revolved around love!
We headed to Indianapolis on Saturday morning.

First it was off to Maggie's bridal shower.
(She's getting married on NYE...how fun is that?!)
We showered her with love and lots of fun gifts.
The shower was very lovely and it was so nice to see the girlfriends!

1. The whole shower crew 2. Maggie and Jon
3. Margaret and Laura 4. Laura, Maria, Me

After showering Maggie, the Mister and I headed to the wedding reception of
our friends, Jon and Karen.
We stayed at the reception allll night long and danced and sang and had a great time with friends.

1. The Mister, Ryan and Joe 2. Me and the Mister

Sunday morning I headed to brunch with some of my Indy besties.
We ate at Zest (I highly recommend it) and I had the best biscuits and gravy + cheese + scrambled egg concoction.
In between all of our activities, our friend Janie took some pictures of Floyd.
Janie took photos of Floyd when he was a wee little guy and also took our engagement pictures.
I can't wait to share the pictures with you!
Floyd is quite the model.
(Especially if you are holding jerky in front of the camera.)

Awkward and Awesomes!

Sep 15, 2011

They're baaaaaack!
I know you guys have really been missing A&A's.
Or I am just telling myself that.

Awkward:
  • Walking out of Crate & Barrel and giving myself a flat tire with the revolving door.
  • Floyd eating Jack's yellow crayon.  Then having poor Jack say, 'wellow? wellow?' to his crayons.  Sorry buddy, it's in Floyd's belly.
  • Responding to bbm's from the Mister with 'sure dogg', 'what up yo?' and the like.  He doesn't seem to be amused with my gangsta antics.
Awesome:
  • I started my new job this week!!! It is SO nice to be in fresh, new environment and to be a part of some really amazing projects. Yay!
  • There's an unlimited supply of diet coke there...I may drink my wages in it.
  • Seeing Floyd waiting for me at the front door when I come home from work. Ridiculously precious.
  • Recently the Mister and I watched all of Dexter Season 5 in 2 days.  Marathon session style.  Crazy dreams ensued.
  • PW's new show...I'm loving it! Has anyone else been watching?
  • Plans are in the works for a Blogger Bluegrass Bash/Meetup at Keeneland in a few weeks.  Blogger friends + Keeneland = 2 of my favorite things wrapped into one!!
  • My friend Allie just started a new blog.  Check it out!

Weekend Wrapup: Whiffle Ball, Luncheon and Jack!

Sep 12, 2011

How was everyone's weekend?!
We had a GREAT weekend!
We spent it in Ft. Wayne, Indiana.

For the past couple of years the Mister has ventured to Ft. Wayne to play in a charity whiffle ball tournament with his buddy Tyson.
(Tyson is this cuties Papa.)
This year I decided that Floyd and I should tag along.

The Mister's aunt Denise lives about 20 minutes from Ft. Wayne.
Once I knew we were headed that way I made plans to have lunch with her.
Let me tell you....we had the most delicious lunch!!
Goat cheese and sun dried tomato quiche, endive, blue cheese, papple (pear + apple fruit) salad and the yummiest chocolate cake ever!
Denise and I were too busy chatting the whole time and I forgot to take pictures of the food!

We had a great time with everyone and especially our cutie pie Mister Jack.
He is getting SO big and more adorable every time we see him.
Jack and Floyd are buds and it is so cute to see them together.
(Even though Floyd ate Jack's yellow crayon--his favorite one :( ).
They are the perfect size for one another.

Fridays with Floyd: Watching Over the 'Hood

Sep 9, 2011

Floyd had taken it upon himself to become the neighborhood watch dog.
His perches on the back of our sofa and keeps on eye on his kingdom (aka our neighborhood).
He takes his job very seriously.
He will sit like this for ours on end.
Well, unless someone says the word jerky and then all bets are off.
He has single pawdly begun breaking down the cushions.
Awesome.
Thanks Bud.

He has his positioning down pat.
You see in this position he can be laying down AND keeping an eye on things.
Best of both worlds.
His other position is sitting more upright and one paw slung over the back.
That's the one he uses for more serious matters and when there is a whole lot going on in the neighborhood.

Fall Fabulousness

Sep 8, 2011

I love Fall.
I love the excitement of a new season.
The new round of fashions and food.
(Pumpkin anything is perfect to me)
I love the cooler weather.
Pumpkin patches and apple orchards.
Fall treats at Starbucks are back.

Here are a few of my favorite fall things.
(All via Pinterest.)

Ohhh this all makes me want to snuggle up on the couch some cider or a pumpkin spice latte!

Just 2 outfits this week.
Simple and casual for running errands in this suddenly chilly weather.

Striped shirt: H&M, White tank and jeans: Kohls

My life would be easier if my fashion director (aka the basset) could take these photos for me instead of lounging on the bed.

Recipe: Chicken Salad Sammies

Sep 6, 2011

Chicken salad is ALWAYS a winner at our house.
Some time ago I had the idea to try chicken salad on sourdough and stick it in the panini maker.
This was a great decision.
The Mister is always very excited when this sandwich is on the menu.
He LOVES chicken salad and LOVES sourdough.
It's a win win.

Here is my chicken salad recipe...nothing earth shattering but yummy nonetheless.

3 boiled chicken breasts: shredded/cubed
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped grapes
3/4(?) cup light mayo (to taste/coat the chicken)
dash of sugar (secret ingredient courtesy of my mama)
salt and pepper to taste

4 slices sourdough thickly sliced
butter to coat bread

(P.S. I love this panini maker)
YUM!
