Total Basset Case: Awkward and Awesomes!

Awkward and Awesomes!

I have 2 stories for you today in awkward and awesomes.  And, appropriately, 1 is awkward and 1 is awesome.  Funny how that worked out, huh?
Warning: Long post.

Awkward:
  • I answered the phone the other day at work and this is conversation that I proceeded to have with an older woman (I'd say she was about 65.  And yes that's a relevant point and not I'm not calling 65 super old but she was older.)
Me: Thank you for calling Dzin, may I help you?
Woman: Who is this?
Me: This is Sar...
Woman: No, where is this?
Me: This is Dzin, in Mason.
Woman: I need the number to the dentist office in Mason.
Me: Okay...I guess I can look it up for you online...
Woman: Well don't you have a phone book? His name is Dr. Whatever (I can't remember).
Me: No, we don't have a phone book.
Woman: WHAT? You don't have a phone book?
Me: No...We just use the Internet
Woman: I find that impossible to believe that you don't have a phone book.  (Impossible is really the word she used to show her disbelief).
Me: I'm sorry ma'am we just don't have one.
Woman: Well, Ernie (the husband I'm guessing) says the dentist number is 5946.
Me: Okay...(Thinking, that's nice to know, why don't you try that number ma'am).
Woman: Well where in Mason are you located
I tell her
Woman: Well I am going to call the phone company and tell them to send you a phone book
(Thinking to myself, how are you going to call the phone company if you clearly don't have a phone book yourself?)
Me: No that's okay but thank you! We don't like to waste the paper so that just really isn't necessary.  We will continue to just use the Internet.
Woman: Hump. And what was your name again?

This woman was NOT happy that we didn't have a phone book.  Who actually uses a phone book these days?!

Awesome:
  • I pulled off a surprise.  That in itself deserves an award.  I am, by far, the world's worst liar.  The Mister once guessed what I got him for Christmas over the phone...and he was in Australia.  He could tell I was lying from half way around the world.
As you guys know my mama's birthday was last Thursday.  I had been scheming for a about a week with my aunt to surprise my mom.
Last Friday my mom drove to Tennessee to visit my Papaw and family.  Little did she know I was not far behind her.
Somehow I managed to convince her that Maggie was coming to town to visit and go shopping.  This was not true...at all.  I even went so far as putting it on my awesomes last week to throw her off.  Sneaky sneaky.
So Mama had called to see how the hair cut went on Friday and I just told her lie after lie as I was driving down the road.  I told her that after I was done with my cut I was running my normal Friday errands...Target, grocery, etc.  Not true.
She then called me again around 3 to tell me she had made it to Tennessee safely.  She could tell I was in my car so I told her I had run back out to get something else.  Sneaky.

About 5:30 I pulled in Papaw's front yard (yes, the front yard...had to be sneaky so the dogs didn't bark) and I walked in the front door.  My aunt Kelley had unlocked the door for me, then apparently Mom walked by and locked it back (thinking someone had left it unlocked) and then Kelley unlocked it, again.  So I walked in the front door and into the family room where she was sitting.
The look on her face was priceless!!! She just stared at me in shock! Between me surprising her and my hair cut I think she was done for.  She just kept saying, 'what are you doing here??? How did you get here?? Why are you here??'
I was so happy to be able to surprise her and spend the weekend with her for her birthday!

All in all, it was a success! I was so happy because I LOVE surprises...like really love surprises.
The Mister has surprised me about a million and a half times during our relationship and I've been 100% shocked each time.  I love seeing other people get surprised, being involved in surprised and now, knowing I can pull one off.

And because all posts need a picture...

Sarah,

You truly surprised me! I am always on top of things and you really pulled this off. I even believed all of the little lies you told me...I must be slipping. Thank you for the best birthday ever, for being the best daughter, and thank you for the NOOK!

Love and hugs!
