Guest Post: Meg from Henning Love

Happy Monday everyone!
While I am at the Furniture Market this week I am thrilled to have some very lovely ladies filling in for me.
First up, I am THRILLED to introduce you to Meg!
Meg is so, so sweet and a great 'blog world' friend!
Take it away, Meg!

Hi all! I'm Meg from henning love and happy to be guest-posting today for Sarah. She is always so sweet with her comments, and when she asked me to guest post for her I definitely couldn't say no.  I love baking, doing DIY projects, a little bit of fashion and jewelry here and there. That is a bit about me and now onto some yummy goodiness for you today. Whenever I make apple pie, I always make a lattice crust. This year I decided to switch things up, some routines can be boring, and baking isn't one of them, so bring on a APPLE CRUMB PIE.
First you have to make the crust so gather your ingredients together for this homemade crust, sorry Pillsbury roll out dough, mine is better! With this recipe you will have two crusts but for this pie you will need only one crust. So you can freeze the other crust or make yourself a quiche for tomorrow night's dinner! You need 2 cup of all purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 3/4 cup shortening, 1/3 cup ice cold water. I know in the picture I have butter but then I decided to stick with the recipe and use shortening. It is usually easier to handle than butter, but it is your preference.
For the pie filling, you need 5 apples cored and sliced, 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg, 1 teaspoon of vanilla.
For the crumble topping, you need 1/2 cup white sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2/3 cup flour, 1 stick butter.
Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Then make the crust, in a bowl put the flour and salt. Put the butter or shortening in the flour mixture, and cut it in with a pastry device or fork to mix up the ingredients together until the mixture is crumbly. Then slowly add the water, working the dough mixture together a bit at a time. Take the dough out, divide it in half and roll it out on your counter. Floor the counter and your rolling pin!
Be sure not to handle the dough too much. In a 9" pie pan, lay out one rolled out piece of dough and cut away any excess dough from the edges.
Then you are ready to make your filling.
In another bowl, place the sliced apples and then coat them with the flour, white sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla extract.
Fill the pie crust with the apples, then make the crumb mixture.
Sprinkle the crumb mixture over the apples. Bake the pie for an hour in the oven, and if the crust starts to brown, cover it with foil until the pie is finished cooking.
Serve the apple pie a la mode or with a drizzle of caramel, then eat and enjoy!

Yum, yum, YUM! I can not wait to try this recipe once I get back!
Thanks again Meg! Please go visit her over at henning love!
