Total Basset Case: What's For Lunch?

Apr 18, 2012

What's For Lunch?

We are talking all things lunch today.
The Mister and I take our lunches to work every day.
One to save money and
two because it is just healthier.

BUT, I am getting tired of eating the same couple of things week in and week out.
I usually take a sandwich, soup or a frozen meal + baked chips, fruit and a 100 calorie treat (oreos, applesauce, etc.).

Does anyone have any suggestions for other meals?
What do you take for lunch?
I have a fridge, stove and microwave at work so no boundaries there.
(There are a few perks to working for a kitchen and bath design studio :) ).

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be go out to lunch every day but that is just not feasible for my waistline.
I do usually treat myself to lunch out twice a month.
 (Qdoba anyone?)

Now the Mister is a totally different story.
He is completely content eating the exact same thing every day.
the. same. exact. thing.
#nothankyou

In terms of ease though, it is okay with me because...
I make his lunch for him every day.
He's a bit spoiled :)
I really don't mind doing it, honestly.

It's one of my ways to show him my love for him.
That, and it's fun to try to sneak little love notes in his lunch bag.

I was recently talking to his mom about making his lunch everyday and she said
'oh, honey you should stop doing that- you are going to spoil him.'
and this was his reaction

Boys.

He is very appreciative of me making his lunch every day,
he thanks me quite often for doing it
and that makes me smile.

So, what's for lunch today?

Haha! That text message made me laugh! I do the same thing for my husband, every single day! I, too, get in a rut... the sandwich, chips, fruit rut. My husband prefers leftovers for lunch, so I try to make enough dinner to send him with a lunch the next day!

Wow, he eats the same thing every day? :) It must be really good!
I usually take some leftovers or make different sandwiches with vegetables.

I make Phils lunch for him to! I enjoy making it, and if you do too then keep doing it :-) I get bored with lunch too...I don't like repeats!

This post made me laugh. I don't mind eating the same thing everyday either, and I suggest you try this: 1 scoop of peanut butter, add vanilla greek yogurt, cut up a banana and add some granola. It's delish!!

Haha - I think my husband would love to live in your house. Since I eat lunch at home every day, I pretty much never pack his lunch. Poor guy.
I usually make extra food for dinner though, because he loves leftovers for lunch and it's easy to pack. So, unfortunately I can't give you any really good ideas...

Love the text! I make my lunch every day also. I recommend:

-switch your sandwhich up by making a wrap, bagel or pita.
-salad with tuna or chicken is also a nice change
-I put low cal pop sickles in my work fridge for a warm weather treat

I have gotten sooo lazy with taking my lunch lately and trust me both the scale and my bank account show it! When I do though I am boring salads and a can of soup but like seeing everyone elses suggestions:)

Whenever I make quinoa since it makes so much I typically have it the next day for lunch and it tastes great cold too!

Just doing some blog catching up and I was glad to see this post. I try to take my lunch everyday as well and I agree: The same thing gets SO boring, makes it really hard to avoid going out for lunch. I try to alternate btwn sandwiches, soups, salads. If I have some extra time on the weekends, I like to make a pasta salad and then use it w/ lunch for work. I love the new Yoplait light yogurt w/ granola so I usually add that with my lunches. Also, love to add some fresh fruit if
I can. Strawberries and cantaloupe are a favorite. :)
