Total Basset Case: Running Regime

Running Regime

Last week Bethany texted me the other day and asked if I wanted to go to
happy hour with her after work.
I replied, yes but after I went to the gym to run a few miles
What?! Who am I?!
She's the marathoner not me.
Don't worry I rewarded those 2 miles I ran with a glass of delicious Pinot.

Anyway, now that I've completed 2 5k's and crossed that off the list,
I have been wondering what the next step (pun intended) in my running life should be.

After talking it over with Bethany (over wine of course), I have decided to focus on
getting better and faster at 3.1 miles and to gradually adding more miles to my runs.
In this awesome humidity that Ohio has been having, I still
can't run a full 30 minutes outside without taking some sort of a little break.
That is really my ultimate goal at the moment.

Now if I'm on the treadmill, I can go for days.
Especially if I have Real Housewives to watch.
I do have a race in September I am working towards
and the Color Run is coming here to Cincy in October
so I will most likely do that again.

For now though, I think my working out plan will be as follows:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Run (aim for at least 30 minutes, gradually adding)
Tuesday, Thursday: Abs, arms and a Pinterest workout
Saturday, Sunday: Run or Pinterest workout on one of the days
Pause. Can we make it a rule that working out on Friday-Sunday
counts as burning double the amount of calories?
K, thanks.

I am slowly easing myself into the idea of downloading the
Couch to 10k app...
That seems like the next logical goal but I am not sure yet.

So, to all of you runners out there...
do you have any suggestions for me?
Should I pull a Forrest Gump and just keep running and running and running?
Give me your tips, suggestions and/or advice.

Seriously, I never thought I would give this much thought to running...
who am I?

My girlfriends are doing a half marathon in March and I'm being recruited to join them. Although running anything more than 3 miles is totally freaking me out now. Although I did take the first step and download the C210k app, now I just need to get out there and use it :)

Good luck!

When I did the half marathon (I'm more than likely only doing it once) ...... I was told to just make sure I complete the miles running.. no matter how long it takes, even if you are almost moving backwards! But I don't know how valid that is! Good luck!

I tell you, I am continually amazed that I can run 3 miles without stopping. And like you, I'm continually amazed when I actually WANT to do it. Next week is my last week of C25K, so all I have to say is...it works. I really like the idea of a "program" - RunDouble has a 5K improver plan, and I really liked using their app for C25K, so I'm considering doing that. And then moving on to the 5K to 10K program. It is just so stinkin hot and humid here! I'm sure it will be much more pleasant in the fall. Anywho, super proud of you - I know how much hard work goes into it! Hope you are feeling better today!

If I start with trying to convince you to run an ultramarathon...maybe I'll get you to "settle" on a half, right?

You are awesome! First choice is do you want to run further or faster? You don't want to work on both at the same time right now.

I'm saving my Runner's World magazines for you! :)

Go, girl! If you just keep at a regular running schedule and gradually add to your distance/time, you'll be amazed how long you'll be able to run without stopping eventually. And then watch out, because you'll be in danger of getting addicted :) It happened to me - I started with a 5k and a few months later was doing a half marathon and now I actually get upset if I don't have time for a run!

That's a great schedule...kudos to you for shooting for that!! I'm on a routine of 3 nights a week plus 1 weekend day at the gym right now. It's a butt-kicker, but it's paying off. Keep at it girl...you're motivating the rest of us! ;)

I should also say ... congrats on completing two 5ks. Such a stud! You could totally do a 10er. You've got this.

I found you through the link up! I just signed up for a Color Run in October and I am so excited.

I wish I had running advice. I actually hate it but I know I NEED to do it. So I can drink wine, basically.

Haha at "Who am I?" I'm currently training for my first 5k, good luck with your 10k! Seeing posts like these makes me think I can be like that... just maybe. One day. :)

I'm always so impressed by people who run marathons. I literally cannot even run a mile without feeling like I lost a lung. Can't wait to hear about it! Thank you for stopping by, I'd love for us to follow each other and keep in touch! :)

Sadly, I have no advice for now, other than to just keep going :) I am not a runner...forced myself into running for about 6 or 8 months, but never enjoyed it. I also have difficulty running outside (which I want to become better at). But running is such a good way to burn fat and it's FREE. I just hate it, haha. I'm like you on the outside running vs. treadmill thing...such a difference!!!
