Total Basset Case: Weekend Wrap Up: The Big D

Weekend Wrap Up: The Big D

I have a confession...the Mister and I played hooky from work last Thursday and Friday and flew down to Dallas to see our best friend Whitney for a long weekend.
To say that we had a blast is an understatement.
We were totally exhausted when we got home but it was all worth it!

Here's what went down (in a mix of camera and iPhone picture overload).

Thursday we got down to Dallas by 11am. Yes you read that right, we got there by 11 which means we left our house at a ridiculous time to catch a super extra early red eye flight. Like, got up at 3am ridiculous.
We grabbed lunch at a great little Thai place and shopped around Dallas while Whitney worked. That evening Whit had a cookout at her house so we could meet a bunch of her friends. I am so glad she did because they were all so sweet and welcoming.
Friday we went shopping (again :)) and then out to the Texas state fair. We really wanted to experience some real tried and true Texas things and the fair definitely fulfilled that.
The Texas state fair had a plethora of fried items that were just begging us to try them. Things we sampled included: fried jambalaya, fried butter and fried macaroni and cheese sliders. I say sampled because one little bite was all I could handle.
That night we were able to attend a charity event at a very cool outdoor venue that one of Whitney's friends was hosting. We didn't know we were going to the event so I hadn't exactly packed a cocktail dress. Thank goodness for bffs who have amazing closets and wear the same size as you.
The Mister on the other hand did happen to pack the perfect clothes (there was a red, white and black theme) and he looked so handsome!
While at the event, I had the pleasure of meeting Courtney Kerr.  She is just as sweet and beautiful in person. And was dressed adorably, of course.
The plan for Saturday was to tailgate all day at SMU. Well tailgate we did..in the POURING rain. And I mean it raiiiined. Just about every person there told us it never rains in Dallas- just the weekend we plan on being there. Despite the rain, we really did have a good time.
After the game we headed to Whitney's favorite sushi place. Like the girl lives there and knows everyone there. So needless to say it was delicious and we were treated very well. #toomanysakibombs

And then this happened.
Why yes that is Kevin Costner!!! What? What??
We were just sitting there waiting on our table and Mr. Costner himself walked in.
He was super nice and personable.
The Mister and I have a special place in our hearts for Kevin (clearly we are on a first name basis already with him). We watched a lot of Tin Cup when we first started dating. It was the movie that we had just watched when Mister told me he loved me for the first time. We told Kevin this story...because we are huge dorks.

I congratulate you if you are still with me.

I think that about wraps up our trip Now it's back to the real world. And detoxing.

How was your weekend?

Oh my GOODNESS! You lucky girl ... two celebs in one weekend! I have met Kevin Costner before and I can say that in our little chat, he is definitely one of the nicest and most down-to-earth celebrities I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. What a fun weekend, every single thing about it. Your post makes me want to put "Texas state fair" on my bucket list!

Holy crap?! Kevin Costner! That is so cool! The closest I've ever been to a movie star was watching Burt Reynolds film some movie in Santa Monica. Lol. Not quite as cool as your encounter!

And how exactly does one fry butter??? That just sounds like some artery clogging fair food goodness!

Kevin Costner was in Dallas for the State of Texas Fair with his band, Modern West. Turns out the concert was canceled due to the rain but some fans did get a 5 song acoustic concert in a tent. Kevin said he was headed for sushi after the meet and greet. And there's nothing "dorkish" about telling Kevin your favorite movie story. He has said more than once in interviews that he loves to hear from fans about how his movies have touched them!
