Total Basset Case: DIY: Striped Canvas

DIY: Striped Canvas

Note: Mister sometimes questions the "accuracy" of his quotes, or the way he's portrayed in these posts.  For example, I told him I was going to do a post about his DIY project, and he said "what is there to say?"  So I showed him what I had typed up so far... he said "I think you're churching it up a little bit, don't you?"  So I said, "well then why don't you give me your version."  As such, what follows is our two differing accounts.  Mister's comments are in italics.

Guys, we have another DIYer in the house.
I am not a 'DIYer.'
Mister did his very own DIY project this weekend while I was away.
How fun is that?
I painted a canvas, calm down.

Almost a year ago I made a canvas to go in our bedroom that read,
'You have my whole heart for my whole life'.
Thanks Pinterest.
Well, the canvas started to warp a few months ago, so we decided we wanted something else to go up there.
Oh we did, did we?

Since I did the first canvas, Mister told me that he would be more than happy to create and design the next one!
I think I said 'Fine, I'll do something about it. Can we go back to sleep now?'
I think it was something that he just said in passing, [that's exactly what it was], but hey, fine by me!
So we ventured out to Michaels and Hobby Lobby [yayayay!!] to pick up his supplies and away he went!

Supplies needed:
-large canvas (size of your choice) from Michaels/Hob Lob [please stop calling it 'Hob Lob'], with a coupon, duh
-spray paint (he ended up using 2 cans)
-accent paint
-painters tape
-foam brush

FYI - turns out the Frog Tape 'Delicate' is garbage. What's that you say, you make a tape designed for painting projects that won't stick to any surface? Or paint?  And its only $9 a foot?  I'll take it! Thirty seconds in to me putting the tape down, it falling off, and me putting it back on again, I was ready to start punching things.  Frog Tape is the worst.

1.Using painters tape, tape off areas you do NOT want painted the overall color
2. Spray entire canvas (with sweeping motion) with spray paint and let dry
3. Carefully remove painters tape to (hopefully) reveal crisp, white areas where the tape was

 4. Reapply tape the outer edges of your design
5. Using a foam brush (or small roller) paint the white areas
 6. Quickly and carefully remove the tape
7. Hang up your canvas and stand back and admire your artwork
 8. Thank the bestest hubs in the world for creating such an awesome piece for your home!
I LOVE it and get so happy every time I walk in our room now!

1. Buy a canvas.  It'll come white.
2.  Paint it a different color.  Doesn't matter what.
3. If you want stripes or something, tape that area off first.  If not, skip this step.
4. Hang it on the wall. Or don't. Whatever. If it's big enough, you can just leave it on the floor leaning against the wall, and when friends come to visit they'll be all like 'oh I love that piece! It feels like a loft in here!' SO EDGY.
5. Bask in the glory of your wife's compliments.

And that, my friends, is a day in the life here at our house.
Conversations similar to these happen all the time.
If I can say one thing about the hubs, it is definitively that he keeps me laughing.

P.s. Go VOTE!!

That's hilarious! Totally sounds like our house, too. Hubs constantly says, "You're gonna blog that, aren't you? K, then I get to read it first." Haha

Love the canvas though!

This is hilarious! Sounds like Shawn and I! Though he just pretty much hangs my artwork - he's not much of the creative type :)

Glad it turned out well, minus the Frog Tape :)

i painted a canvas, calm down. hahaha i am dying right now reading this. that is just like my boyfriend. i always say, my awesome great perfect man was so sweet and finished this project... but in reality, he does most things just so i will stop asking. all of our walls could be white and bare and my jon couldn't care less!! and if he wrote out the directions, they would read probably the same. "paint it. or don't. whatever" this was great!

Love this! I did something similar... but sadly, left the painting with the house.

The geometric lines just look so wicked though!
