Recipe: Pretzel Crusted Chocolate Chip Bars with Crushed Candy Topping

Well, that was a mouth full.

Last week I was wracking my brain trying to think up a way to 1. use up all of our Halloween candy and 2. create a dessert to take to Katie's house.

After scouring the interwebs (and pinterest of course) I decided that chocolate chip cookie bars were the way to go.
Well, that led me to Tasty Kitchen and this recipe.
Jackpot.
Salty and sweet, all in one bite.
Plus crushed up candies on top...I mean, really?!
What could possibly be bad about that?

So away I went....
I followed Lauries instructions as they are on her site here.
The only thing I did different was only add about half the chocolate chips to the batter.
The other half I sprinkled on top of the batter after it was done cooking and put them back in the oven for about 1-2 minutes.
While the bars were baking I unwrapped and chopped up about 47 million pieces of candy.
(Realistically I'd say it was about 2-3 cups worth, once chopped).
Once the chocolate chips on top of the bars came out of the oven I smoothed them out with a spatula and COVERED the bars with the candy.
Because everything was still warm the candy melted a little into the chips...heaven.
I then used every bit of will power in my body to let them cool and rest over night.
Guys.
These were amazing.
And rich.
And awesome.
And divine.
And heavy.
Like seriously just lifting the pan was a sufficient arm workout.
Which is good because I'm pretty sure one of them probably has about 3271 calories each but they are SO worth it.

What did you do with your leftover candy?
