Total Basset Case: Fridays with Floyd : Thief

Fridays with Floyd : Thief

I know everyone thinks this face
(his not mine)
is totally innocent all the time.
I hate to burst your image of Floyd but, he isn't.
Besides being rascally, he has a bit of a stealing problem.
And I'm 100% certain that performs his stealing act as his daily entertainment.

One Floyd steals something he takes off in a sprint (he's shockingly fast) and does laps around the kitchen table- darting in and out of the chair legs. And I know this is hard to believe, but he's actually really hard to catch. He has quite the method down pat.

It's hard to get mad at him when he has such ridiculous things in his mouth.
I mean, try reprimanding a dog that has a huge sweet potato in their mouth...I dare you.
However, his stealing ways have ended him up in time out a time or two.

Here are a few of the things he's swiped...
Paper towels/napkins
Dish towels (this one happens every single day)
Sweet potato
Banana (and ate 1/2 the peel)
Christmas ornaments
Socks
Shoe insoles (also every day)
Undergarments
Toothbrushes (ours and guests- embarrassing Floyd!)
Chapstick, gum, granola bars from purses
Clothes
Sandwiches
Make up brushes
Ankle weights
DVDs
Slippers
Half a loaf of banana bread

And those are just things I can think off the top of my head.
I am not exaggerating when I say I have to chase him down and get something out of his mouth almost every day.
He is by far the nosiest (and entitled) dog you've ever met.

So 97% of the time he's pretty stinkin good and snuggly.  But the other 3%....whew. Not always an angel.  And if you are ever at our house and missing something, I'd check with the basset.

Oh, them little bassets are fast! We live on a big ranch and when Sampson was in his prime he would catch a sniff of a deer and be off. My husband could not catch him he would be right on his heels but couldn't quite get him! I know I would never be able to!

When Lex was in preschool, the asst. director who has a basset named Roscoe told us that her daughter was home from U of AL last year for Christmas and she had been raising funds for a mission trip. She had about $100 sitting in her purse in her room and Roscoe got in it and ate it!!

What was bananas was that they managed to get all of it back except $3 but how the did is not for the faint of heart. :)
