Total Basset Case: Makin It Easier

Makin It Easier

I am all about efficiency and multitasking.
If you can't be doing 47 things at once why do anything, right??
And lately I've realized that I've subconsciously been doing a few things that are helping me be more efficient and use my time more wisely - 2 huge bonuses in my life.

Here are 4 things that are making my life easier lately

1.  Remember when you were little and your mom made you lay your clothes out before you went to bed for school the next day?  Well I've started making myself do that for the week.  I try on Sunday nights to corral all of my tops for the upcoming week into one area in my closet.  That way it's just a grab and go situation not a 'hmmmmm what to wearrrr? Oh look 20 minutes have passed and I'm still not dressed.'
And while Floyd is usually my go to getting ready buddy, his ability to pick out outfits isn't the best.

2. Remember way back when and I would put together month long meal plans here on blog?  Yeah I forgot about it too but recently I've jumped back on the bandwagon.  But I can not take all of the credit, Kait sent Casey and I her meal plan a few months ago and it reminded me how stinkin easy it made my life.  So I've started it back up again and it is seriously the best thing.
I could go on forever about my love for meal planning and how much easier it makes your life.  I was thinking of posting the plans again on the blog.  Would anyone be interested in that??

3. I'm not sure where I heard about The Skimm but I am sure glad I did.
Truth time : I am terrible about reading the news and keeping up with current events.
Until, The Skimm entered my life.  Every morning when I wake up I have an email from them that takes me less than 3 minutes to read and gives me snippets of all of the news going on in the world.
Perfect for me - sweet and short and to the point.
Plus it makes watching The Today Show even more interesting because I know more of what Natalie is talking about.
Sign up for The Skimm here!
#SheReadsTruth is also an early morning treat in my mailbox.  Casey told me about this quick, short, daily devotional and it is great way to start the day.  It also only takes a few moments to read and I love starting my day with it. You can sign up for that one here.

4. In an effort to have more time in the evenings with my main men, I've been getting my non running work outs in the morning.  Sure this means a 6am call with Tony and P90X2 but when I can come home from work, walk Floyd and be free for the evening, it's totally worth it.  Plus knowing you are starting the day with your work out done feels pretty great.

So, tell me, what do you do to make your day run more smoothly?

Linking up with Shanna!

Ohhh, #1. I need to do that SO badly! I feel like I wear the same few things each week and I never spend just 10 minutes the night before even to come up with something a little more fun/different. I accept your challenge!! ;)

I love meal planning and I'm pretty sure we would eat Chipotle every day of the week if we didn't map out our week! haha

I would totally be into your meal plan! :) Also, I think you are awesome sauce for getting up early to work out. It's so hard!

I would love to hear more about how you meal plan! I plan out week-by-week, but I bet monthly saves time and money!

Ugh but how do you make yourself get up to go work out? Every time I try to do that I just wind up getting right back into bed and not working out at all.

I adore theSkimm- they help me stay informed in the best way, and it's a great read for my commute!

I need to do this badly I waste so much time 'deciding' I really must start planning ahead!!! As for the 6am workouts, I do try but my comfy bed always convinces me otherwise!! Xx

Meal Plan -- yes please! I try to plan out my meals each week before I head to the store. I'm starting to get bored with my meals, and you seem to have some great healthy recipes, so I would love to hear more about what you are eating each week. As for working out, I totally need to find a way to get motivated in the morning to do this. Especially since my work days have been super long lately and then I can never fit in working out. I find that I have no energy and need to chug some water and eat something before I work out. Do you eat/drink anything to get you moving? I am always wondering how morning workout people do it...ha!

Laying out my clothes is a necessity! Luckily we get to wear certain tee shirts on certain days so that makes it easier!

Great tips! I try to do most of these two. Very efficient. Another thing I've tried is setting alarms on my phone to remind me and make sure I do things like taking my vitamins and doing 10 minute cleanup everyday.

Thank you for the link to the daily devotional! I love that! And the other advantage to doing your workout in the morning is that it kick starts your metabolism and burns all of those calories on the front end of your day.

Planning is the best way to help me save time, I'm not sure I could be organized enough to plan all my meals for the month, but whenever I plan certain times to do certain tasks I always get them done more efficiently.

But I think it can be hard to stick to a plan, so sometimes I don't want to go to all of the work to create one! haha

I've started laying out ALL of our clothes the night before and am amazed at how much time it saves me in the mornings. I guess our Mother's do know best!

I'd love to see your meal planning tips. I did a week's worth of meal planning last night and will be making that shopping trip tomorrow but would love to be able to plan for 2 weeks at at time! Any tips would be great :)

I've never heard of the Skimm before, but of course I'm signing up now! NPR also does a great (super short) podcast in the mornings to catch you up on the day's news, if podcasts are your thing!

Genius!! I totally need to start laying out my outfits!
And your long meal plans... do you plan out for the whole month? That is amazing! I can only manage one week at a time. But I'd LOVE it if you started posting your plans!

I am so guilty of standing in front of my closet before work for 20 minutes and I'm still not dressed. I need to do #1 stat! And I think it's about time for me to start my morning workouts again. It really is so nice to have them out of the way for the day. And I just signed up for the Skimm! Thanks for introducing me to it - I'm so bad at keeping up with the news, though I did start listening to NPR in the morning on my way to work. I'm growing up so fast ;)
