Florida Vacation Recap: Deep Sea Fishing (Part 3)

Even before we were in Florida, Mike and Sarah kept telling us how fun the deep sea fishing tours were.  We were easily convinced and decided to go on a full day fishing tour on Thursday.  It turned out to be an extremely interesting day and I'm very glad we went!

The tour leaves early in the morning and goes about 2 hours out into the ocean before putting the anchor down (I'm almost positive that is not proper boating jargon).  It was mesmerizing to be in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the ocean.  I was having a hard time wrapping my head around the hugeness of the ocean.  It was a very strange sensation to look as far as you can see and only see water.  Literally, 360 degrees around just. water. Strange.

Once the captain had decided upon a good fishing spot we were allowed to cast our poles and start fishing! I'm happy to report that all four of us caught quite a few fish.  There are some bans in place in Florida so not everything we caught we could keep.
There were definitely some fisherman on our boat that knew what they were doing way more than we did.  They were catching many large and interesting fish!  One guy even caught two small sharks!!  (And, lucky for us, at the end of the day, he didn't want them and offered them to Mike. Score!)

It was a long day to be out in the sun and on a boat all day but it was a very cool experience!
