DIY: Ribbon Bracelet

I previously shared this DIY over at Everyday Easy but I wanted to re-post it in case any one missed it.
My mom recently asked me to make her one to use at her job as an elementary school counselor.  We are developing a story to go along with the different colors and weaved effect.  i.e. weaving friendships, different parts making something whole, etc.

Recently when I was home visiting my mom I decided to scavenge through her old craft supplies.  I came upon a shoe box full of ribbons.  Jackpot!  I quickly googled 'ribbon crafts' for ideas.
One of the first ideas I came across was this video.  I was immediately intrigued by this very cute craft and knew I had to get to work on it.  At first I practiced with some of her ribbons to get the hang of the pattern. I then headed off to JoAnn's to purchase some spools of ribbons that were the correct width (I used 3/8") and coordinating colors.
This method of 'braiding' is very similar to a type of friendship bracelets that I made as a kid.  The method is so easy and becomes almost mindless once you get the hang of it.

1. First cut approximately 2 yards of each of the 4 colors of ribbon.

2. Make a small mark in the center of each ribbon and weave the 4 stands together.

3. Now it's time to begin braiding.  The first braid goes in a clockwise direction and the second goes in a counterclockwise direction. Using every other ribbon, start braiding.  So in this case, the BLUE comes down, the YELLOW over, the GREEN up and the ORANGE over and through the BLUE.
4. Now reverse those steps to create the second step.  Repeat this braid until you get to the end of the ribbon.  When you reach the end of your ribbon, flip the braid over and start again on the other side.

5. Once you reach the end of your ribbon on both ends, simply stitch up the ends and clip off the excess.
6.  You will need to then to slightly twist the ribbon strand and stitch the ends together.
