Fridays with Floyd: Off to Grandma's House We Go!

Floyd LOVES Grandma and LOVES going to Grandma's.
Maybe more than he loves peanut butter.
And that's a lot.
Whenever we make the trek to Madison we can't tell Floyd where we are going until RIGHT before we walk out the door.
He carries on like this as soon as we say the 'G' word.

Sweet Treat

Last week Bethany asked if I wanted to get Yagoot with her one evening.
Duh.
My mama has always told me that ice cream (or tart yogurt) is a suitable dinner.
And you can't argue with your mama.

Then this week Bethany came to the rescue again with news of a new yogurt place in Kenwood.
I told her we should probably continue our weekly tradition and try this place out.
I mean we needed to make sure it was safe for everyone to be eating.

Orange Leaf is one of the trendy new yogurt/ice cream places where you pay by the weight.
Orange Leaf is very similar to Coldstone (my ultimate fave) but with yogurt.

There were probably 20 different yogurt choices along a brightly tiled orange wall
and then just as many toppings to choose from.
The flavors ranged from peanut butter to key lime pie to mango to raspberry.

I chose brownie batter and cheesecake

Not knowing exactly how the pricing would work out we didn't want to go too overboard with our choices.
We both chose two yogurt flavors and a multitude of toppings.
Their pricing is $.49/ounce (which is sneakily not posted anywhere).
Ours ended up being between $5 and $7.

Strawberries, Reese's Pieces, Chocolate Chips, Oreo Bits, Cinnamon Toast Crunch

Brownie Batter and Raspberry with Strawberries and Oreo Bits

 Clearly I hated it
P.S. Their spoons are shaped like shovels...

Overall it was yummy but I felt like the yogurt flavors could have been stronger.
I think I would choose Coldstone or Yagoot first.
But then again I love all frozen ice cream like treats sooo...I wouldn't turn it down if it came by way.
Or I was driving past and needed a sweet treat.

Research Study

So a while ago my friend Bethany told me that she often participates in research studies for company local to us and gets paid for her time and effort.
I said, where do I sign up??

Sign up I did and soon I started getting calls and questions about particular products.
However, every time the group that my answers and I would fall into would be full and they wouldn't need me.

Then one afternoon I got an email from the company and answered some questions about breakfast sausage.
Yes. Sausage.
But I went with it and thought hey, maybe this time I'll be chosen and can make some extra cash.
Turns out I was chosen (!!!).

The company contacted me, asked me even MORE questions about sausage and informed me that this project was an in home interview study.
I was told that several people (at least 1 female) would come to my home, ask me questions, look in my refrigerator and then follow me to the grocery store and watch me do my weekly grocery shopping.
(The information I was told made it sound as if the interview would be about my grocery shopping habits and a little about my use of breakfast sausage...this is important later)

After about 3 more confirmation phone calls and 2 emails the date was set.
And I was excited!
On a Monday afternoon, 2 ladies arrived at my door and sat down and interviewed me.
They sat down at my kitchen table and proceed to ask me questions for about 30 minutes.
In those 30 minutes they asked me approximately 97,000 questions about sausage.
Not kidding.
How I eat it? How often I prepare it?
What brands do I buy? What brands don't I buy? What do I think of the price(s)?
And on and on and on.
About sausage.

Right before we were about to head to the store they asked if I had any sausage in my fridge.
'Um, no. Am I supposed to?'
'Well, hmmm.  You don't have any sausage in your fridge?'
'No.'
'Really? Are you sure you don't have any in your fridge??'
'I'm sure ma'am.  I didn't know I was supposed to...'
Awkward.

We then continued on to the store (they followed me in their car).
When we arrived at the sausage aisle we stood there for a good 10 minutes.
And they asked me even more questions about breakfast sausage.
They asked me about all the different brands, sizes, prices, etc.

When asking about prices they asked if I felt each brand was appropriately priced.
For Bob Evans sausage (which I never buy) I told them I thought it was too high priced and probably only that way because it was "Bob Evans".
No response from them (red flag number 1).
We then wandered to the frozen breakfast food aisle and more questions ensued.
Same idea, different products.
Concerning Bob Evans again they asked me about these particular breakfast sandwiches.
I promptly told them I would most likely never buy those because they looked like cheeseburgers and that was very confusing considering they were supposed to be a breakfast item.  Just trying to be honest here people.
Crickets chirping again (red flag number 2).
They asked more questions and then they said...
'Well, we would like to thank yo for your time and to let you know that this survey is sponsored by Bob Evans.'
Awesome. Insert foot in mouth.

I had just totally bashed their product more than once and didn't even know it.

Needless to say, I did end up getting paid BUT it was a very strange hour and half of my life.
The things we do for money... :)

Awkward and Awesomes!

Awkward:
  • Only flossing right before going to the dentist.  It didn't fool them.
  • Realizing that the Mister has NEVER read 'If You Give a Mouse a Cookie'. WHAT?!?
  • Promptly putting said book on hold at the library, going to pick it up and realizing I accidentally reserved the teachers edition (i.e. it's huge).
  • Second realization of the week: my friend Allie has never had a Blizzard! Say it isn't so!! I gander I've had approximately 9,000 Blizzards in my life.  So when she told me this I kinda, accidentally, maybe just a little bit, overly freaked out on her.

Awesome:
  • The Mister and I had bed time stories and he is finally a part of the real world and knows the story of the mouse and the cookie.  Thank goodness. Now we need to conquer the moose and the pig and we will be set.
  • Counting Yagoot as dinner and sharing with a great friend.
  • The Mister got me a new bike pump so hopefully my bike will be up and running again soon!
  • UPDATE: I have just learned that Allie has redeemed herself and has now had a Blizzard.  Phew.
  • Apparently I'm really into improving peoples lives this week.
  • Going to see The Help this weekend!! I've heard fantastic reviews and I am SO excited to see it!

    How was your week?

    On the Hunt: Brown Boots

    My brown boots are dying.
Last winter may have been their last hurrah.
Don't tell them though...I haven't broken the news to them yet.

I always have the hardest time finding boots that fit my list of criteria:
    1. I like
    2. Fit well and comfy
    3. Don't cost a fortune
    4. Not heeled (I really like the small wedge heels)

Santa brought me a pair of black Steve Madden boots last winter that I LOVE.  As much as I love diversity in a wardrobe, I honestly wouldn't mind having the brown pair just like them because I know I like them/they fit well.
    (Early Christmas present, Mom??)

But just for inspiration, boot(re)search and fun here are a few I found via Pinterest.

    Fryes, yes please
The ever beautiful and stylish Kendi
I think these are the ones like my black ones.  If Kendi wears them, you know they're cool.

Which ones do you like? Has anyone seen any cute boots on sale lately?
