Running Update

I know you have been sitting on the edge of your seat
wondering how my running has been going.
Well, I'm glad you asked.
It's been going pretty well.
There are times while I'm running that it sucks and I am cursing it
BUT I can tell that it's getting easier
and that I've lost a few lbs
(if we are being totally honest,
I am eating an ice cream sandwich while I'm typing this...
a girl can't live on protein bars alone)

I ran while we were at the lake and it didn't go well
and I was really mad at myself.
But instead of getting too frustrated with myself
I repeated the run on Monday and it went much better.

Now today is the scary one...
It is supposed to go something like this
5 minute warm up
20 minute jog.
Yes, you read that correctly...
They want me to run for 20 minutes, straight.
Like, without stopping.
Monday's run was
5 minute warm up
8 minute jog
5 minute brisk walk
8 minute jog
cool down.

So what you are telling me (nice, friendly) Couch to 5k trainer lady
is that the most I've run is 8 minutes at a time and now I'm supposed to run 20?!

If anyone needs me I'll be in the neighbor's yard passed out.
Any form of life support or encouragement is welcome...

Last time, I had a few questions about my running shoes...
they are the Rush 33's by Asics.
I picked mine up at Kohls for about $55
(well really for $15 because my mom is awesome
and gave me $40 in Kohl's cash...)
Their site is now saying they are $65 but it's
Kohls so I'm sure they will be on sale by this weekend

Over the weekend a friend of mine told me about
great running gear and their clearance sections has tons of deals!
I think a running skirt may be in my future

P.S. don't forget to enter the giveaway I am hosting over at Britt's blog!

I did the C25K program at first as well. I would say just bump it up to 12 Minutes , then 15, THEN 20...I think jumping from 8 to 20 is toooo much for a beginner. :) That way you don't blow your confidence and feel crummy. :)

Yeahhh, that was my issue with C25K... it just increased TOO fast! But you can do it! I'm going to slowly make myself get back into it. Do you run outside or on a treadmill?

You are doing great! I know what you mean when it says hey run 3 miles then jump to 8! You are like whoa!?!?!? So proud of you! xoxo A-

Me running for 20 minutes straight sort of scares me! I can do cardio forever but running is different. Don't be too hard on yourself! Good luck!

The 20 minute run is hard {but not as bad as that 45 min one at the end!}, but you can do it! You basically ran 16 the last time, right? Just pace yourself and if you need to stop for a minute to catch your breath don't stress about it. Good luck!

I did the C25k a couple years ago, and I too thought it was crazy, but I did it and it felt awesome.

I have been looking at that couch to 5K program and it looks rough but you can do it! I am going to start soon when I'm done with current workouts! :)

Keep it up girly! You can do it! It gets easier I promise. This may sound weird but I find that mixing running with other types of exercise like yoga, pilates and deep stretching really helps me the next time I run. If that does work,
I will gladly let you borrow Toby and he will drag you to your goal.

Good luck girl! Soon you will look back at 20 minutes and laugh. I'm doing Jillian Michael's 30 day shred and it's killing me, but I'm also loving it. Getting back into shape is hardwork and I'm long overdue.

I am doing Couch to 5K too! I have never considered myself a runner, but my husband really wants to be able to run races, etc. together, so I figured I would give it an honest effort while I have some extra time this summer. I am terrified of getting to the long runs! Only in Week 2 right now...we'll see how it goes!

You go girl!!! There was a time I couldn't run 20 minutes, or anything close to it and I can now. It took awhile, but you will seriously look back soon and be like, "20 minutes?! That's nothing!"

Honestly, you might be pleasantly surprised that 20 minutes doesn't feel all that different. Pace yourself - no one said you had to go fast! Once you can do that 20 minutes, more minutes just get easier!!

That is too funny that you got your hubby to do one of those nose strips. We don't think we will use them again! That was rough! :-)

Hey there! I found your blog through Anne of In Residence, and I'm glad to hear that someone else is training for a big run! I'm just starting to train for a half marathon and it's scary but empowering! Keep up the good work!
