Fridays with Floyd: Post Op

Apr 27, 2012

Floyd had his eye surgery yesterday
and I happy to report that he is doing GREAT!

He is tolerating wearing his 'comfy cone' and figuring things out with it on.
It is safe to say that all of our furniture is a little askew because he keeps banging into things
BUT he will get the hang of it shortly, I'm sure!

He has to go back in 5 days for a check up and then back about a week later to get the stitches out.

I'll keep you guys updated on how he is doing!

As for now, he looks like he has fabulous eyelash extensions on the bottom!
(And he is hoping we don't run into any of his girlfriends any time soon)

Floyd's grandma is coming to visit him this weekend so I know he will be spoiled and
loved on a LOT!
And that has to make anyone feel a million times better!

Happy weekend, friends!

Woodford Reserve

Apr 25, 2012

It is no secret that the Mister and I love our bourbon.
Like, really love it.

But we had yet to go to any of the stops on the Bourbon Trail.
(Major fail on our part)

A few weeks ago we were traveling to Eastern Kentucky for a wedding and decided to solve that problem!

Woodford Reserve here we come!
The Woodford Reserve property is absolutely beautiful!
The tour around the property was about 30 minutes.
It was incredibly informative, in depth and, of course, smelled delicious!
And the best part; there was a tasting at the end!
(Complete with a bourbon ball chocolate)
(double score)

The Mister really enjoyed his tasting to the fullest...
These are some goodies we picked up in the gift shop!
I am dying to make sugar cookies or a coffee cake with the bourbon infused vanilla.

Have you ever done the bourbon trail?
I think next on our list is Maker's Mark!

Fridays with Floyd: Eye Lift

Apr 20, 2012

Mr. Floyd has been having some issues with his eyes.
They have been super itching and gunky.
After many, many trips to the vet and lots of benadryl,
it has been determined that he basically needs a puppy eye lift.
Plastic surgery. For our dog.

Floyd has entropion,
which basically means that his bottom eye lids roll into his eye balls.
The vet said he probably feels like he constantly has an eyelash in his eye.
Poor, poor Floyd.
We hate that he has been so miserable
and are so happy that he is going to get better
but
I am a nervous wreck!
There is a large chance that I will be bawling when I drop him off next week.

And he has to wear a cone for 2 weeks after.
That is NOT going to go over well with him.

Thankfully, there are some other options besides the normal huge, plastic cone.
We found these on Amazon that do not seem to be as intense as the plastic.
Has anyone had any luck with any cones like these?

and then there is this one...
I'm sorry but this just looks like someone stuck a pool float on that poor doggies neck.

The surgery is next week, I will keep you guys updated on how he is doing!

Happy weekend, friends!
Hope it's great!

P.s. we are so close to 200.
The giveaway may or may not have something to do with this...

DIY: Basset Silhouette Pillow

Apr 19, 2012

Are you ready for the 'cotton' anniversary gift reveal?

As your recall, I was desperately searching for a gift.

I finally settled on this shirt

and a DIY gift.

It all spurred from this pillow from Pottery Barn
but at almost $50 ($40 for the pillow and $8 for the insert + shipping)
I wanted a slightly cheaper option.

Then I had an DIY idea!
Why don't I just make the Mister a basset pillow??
A silhouette pillow at that!

I hopped on over to TJ Maxx and was able to found an orange pillow that matched our sofa.

I then printed out a photo of Floyd's profile

I then sketched Floyd's profile onto a piece of brown felt, cut it out and pinned it to the pillow.
I wanted the stitching to be very thick and show up really well so I used cream colored embroidery thread.
I sewed around the perimeter and the whole project was done in about an hour!

Ta da!

What's For Lunch?

Apr 18, 2012

We are talking all things lunch today.
The Mister and I take our lunches to work every day.
One to save money and
two because it is just healthier.

BUT, I am getting tired of eating the same couple of things week in and week out.
I usually take a sandwich, soup or a frozen meal + baked chips, fruit and a 100 calorie treat (oreos, applesauce, etc.).

Does anyone have any suggestions for other meals?
What do you take for lunch?
I have a fridge, stove and microwave at work so no boundaries there.
(There are a few perks to working for a kitchen and bath design studio :) ).

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be go out to lunch every day but that is just not feasible for my waistline.
I do usually treat myself to lunch out twice a month.
 (Qdoba anyone?)

Now the Mister is a totally different story.
He is completely content eating the exact same thing every day.
the. same. exact. thing.
#nothankyou

In terms of ease though, it is okay with me because...
I make his lunch for him every day.
He's a bit spoiled :)
I really don't mind doing it, honestly.

It's one of my ways to show him my love for him.
That, and it's fun to try to sneak little love notes in his lunch bag.

I was recently talking to his mom about making his lunch everyday and she said
'oh, honey you should stop doing that- you are going to spoil him.'
and this was his reaction

Boys.

He is very appreciative of me making his lunch every day,
he thanks me quite often for doing it
and that makes me smile.

So, what's for lunch today?

Meal Plan: Week of April 16th + Weekend Wrap Up

Apr 16, 2012

I apologize for the lack of meal planning yesterday.
I have a really good excuse...
I couldn't stop reading '50 Shades of Grey'.
It is SO good.
I ordered the next 2 books last night and can NOT wait for them to get here!

Anyway, excuses aside, here is our meal plan
Monday: Leftover Dr. Pepper Pork
 Thursday: Leftovers
Weekend: Plans are in the works :)

I am also planning on whipping up these creamsicle cookies

And now for the weekend wrap up!

Despite a bit of rain early, we had a great day at Keeneland!
I wore the dress and loved it (can't wait to wear it again),
we made some new friends,
ate yummy food
and
I won $6.60 on a race

I Found the Dress!

Apr 13, 2012

....for Keeneland that is!
If you follow me on Twitter (@totalbassetcase), you have probably gathered that I'm going to Keeneland this weekend.
I am beyond excited!!

You may recall here when I gushed my love for A Cut Above.
Well I FINALLY made a decision on a dress
(I literally could not decide)
Cute, right?
I know, I know it was not included in my previous options but I LOVE it!
I also got a cute, skinny orange belt to go with it.

My experience with A Cut Above was top notch!
I ordered the dress on Thursday and it was here Monday.
Brittany even included an adorable A Cut Above koozie!
Now I'm really Keeneland ready!
I got my nailsss did
I have also recently rediscovered my velcro rollers
Why did I ever stop using them??
They will be busted out to create the perfect Southern hair.

And I will be packing my teasing brush in case this happens again...

Happy FRIDAY!!
