How I Make That Money, Honey

Jul 31, 2012

Aren't we all a little curious as to what everyone does all day?
Lucky for us, Lindsey is hosting a link up!

As much as I would LOVE to be a SAH(doggie)M and blogger...
that isn't the case.
What I do get to do every day is almost as cool
(If they would let me bring Floyd to the office,
it would as cool.)

But let's start at the beginning.
I started my college career at Butler University
with a major in psychology
and attended there for 2 years.
Even though I met my bff's at Butler,
school wise, psychology and I were not getting along.
(can we go back to college please?)

That summer after my sophomore year I happen to get a job
 at an interior design firm/store.
The light bulb immediately went off and
I knew interior design was my calling in life.

By the end of the summer I had decided to switch
my major to Interior Design and transfer to IUPUI.
(Butler did not offer Interior Design as a major.)
The whole transition from one school to the
other happened very quickly.
But from my very first design class at IUPUI,
I knew I had made the right decision.

All of my friends still lived in Indianapolis and continued at Butler.
I was able to live with them and
still have the Butler experience while attending IUPUI.
It was the best of the both worlds.

Even though it took me 4 more years
(6 years total if you are counting), to finish
school, it was definitely worth it.

After school I moved to Cincinnati and
quickly landed a job at an interior design/retail shop.
I was there for about a year and a half until my current job came about.
I won't go into details, but it wasn't a good environment for me.

Last September I started at my current job and I LOVE it.
I work at a small, boutique interior design firm.
We specialize in kitchen and bath remodels,
but really do anything and everything concerning design.
From paint colors, to sofas and pillows, to total remodels,
we do it all!
(inspiration images via my Pinterest boards)

I love working with clients,
putting their designs together
and seeing the final product come to life.
Our firm is very innovative and creative and makes the
process so much fun.
I also do a lot of the front of office work:
checking on/placing orders, invoices, collecting samples for projects,
and generally keeping everything organized.
(I also get to order all of the office supplies.
I know this is totally dorky but I love office supplies
and honestly get excited every time I place an order.
Is there anything better than fresh sharpies?)

So in a nutshell, that is what I do every day!
Now if someone could figure out how for me to
design, be a SAH(doggie)M and blogger full time,
that would be great!

Now go link up with Lindsey and see what everyone else is up to all day!

Weekend Wrap Up: The Color Run

Jul 30, 2012

Dear Color Run,
You were AWESOME!
The girls and I had the best time!
We successfully completed the race and
were successfully covered in color!
I can't put into words how much fun it was
so I will just let the pictures do the talking.
(stole this one from Elise :) )

After the run
(and naps)
we lounged at the pool, girl talked,
watched a lot of Olympics,
and just had a great time together!
And ate of LOT of Fire Crackers.

We stayed with one of my besties, Maggie,
and Saturday night we had an in-home
wine tasting.
Maggie's husband Jon owns a wine store, Tasteful Times
and put together a special tasting for us.
It was so FUN!
We had 4 whites and 4 reds.
We tasted the wines, guessed the varietal
and the Jon would tell us more about the wines.

Cheers to a fabulous weekend with the besties.
How was your weekend?

Fire Crackers

Jul 27, 2012

Are you ready for the easiest recipe of your life?

I pinned this recipe a while ago and first made it for
when we were home for Regatta.
(The pin does not go to a link so I am not sure who to credit it to.
If you know, please send me a message so I can properly credit them!)

Fire Crackers
(I adapted the recipe a little from the original)
-1 box (reduced fat) cheez its
-1 box (reduced fat) white cheddar cheez its
-1 bag oyster crackers
-1 ranch dressing mix
-2-3 tbls olive oil
-1-2 tbls red pepper flakes (more to taste)

1. Mix all ingredients together
2. Devour
 Could that be easier?
I'm telling you, you won't be able to stop eating this mix.
Make it this weekend, you won't be sorry.
(Obviously regular cheez its would be totally fine,
I was just trying to save us a few calories.)

Have a great weekend, friends!
I am so excited to watch the Olympics Opening Ceremony tonight,
see the besties
AND
Saturday is THE COLOR RUN!!
Great weekend in store!

P.s. I'm thinking we need a giveaway when I reach 400...
thoughts??

Cuteness Overload

Jul 25, 2012

Are you ready to not get anything else done today?
Thanks to my mama and some internet browsing,
I have come across 2 sites that I are taking up all of my free time.

1. Yesterday I stumbled upon the
and almost burst into tears at my desk from cuteness.
It is virtually impossible to nail down my
favorite but in the running are:
#9 You know that elephant was SO happy
#18 Photo booth proposal. How adorable?!
#20 Obviously.
#37 Who wouldn't have wanted this as a kid?
#42 Dog besties

and now for the real time waster...
Just get out of here with these pups!
I could literally watch them puppy around all day long.
Or sleep too, they do a lot of that.
My favorite is when some of them are sleeping and
another one just plows across them.
"Excuse me, brother!"
And! they are being trained to be
therapy dogs to veterans!
How awesome is that?

Good luck getting any work done today,
you're welcome. :)

Weekend Wrap Up: Busy & Giveaway Winner

Jul 23, 2012

Monday, here you are again.
Boo.
Let's chat about something more fun.
How was your weekend?
Mine was great!
Busy but great!
And this week is the week of the Color Run!!
Eeeee!

But first, here is what I did this weekend.
Friday after work I headed home to hang out with my
mama for her birthday.
We chatted, had dinner and prepped for
some new furniture that was coming from my grandparent's house.
While cleaning out the garage we found some gems from my childhood.
Heeey childhood memories.

Saturday we moved the furniture
(well we had other people move the furniture, ha)
and went through some boxes.
I inherited some really cool pieces and memories
from my Mamaw and Papaw.
I can not wait to show you guys what I got.
That is a post coming soon!
But as a teaser...
there may or may not be a lot of Mason jars involved.
Saturday night I headed back to Cincinnati
and the Mister and I took it easy
with a Mexican dinner and margaritas.

Sunday was spent cleannnning our house,
pooling it, errands, naps and watching our Sunday shows.
Bachelorette finale...
eeeeek!!
I discovered this wine and it was perfect
to have during the finale.
Go getcha some.
It is almost champagne like-very crisp!
This week will be spent prepping for the COLOR RUN
counting down the days until I see the besties on Friday!

Linking up with the girls for Weekend Update!
Go check out Sami at Sami's Shenanigans, Leeann at Join the Gossip and Dana at five30three.

Oh!! The button giveaway winner is....
I'll shoot you an email, girl!
Congrats!!

Have a great week, friends!

Fridays with Floyd: I'll Take a Water Please

Jul 20, 2012

We have a diva on our hands.
Remember when I told you Floyd was dramatic??
Well he is also pre-tty sassy.

Floyd carries on like this more often than I would like to admit.
(sorry the first one is blurry)

video

video

Sass.tastic.
In case you are wondering, he would like some water.

You should know that this happened right after
I walked in the door from work.
Literally had just walked in the dor.
And that he gets plenty of water and food
but we can't give him too much at a time
or he will drink/eat it all and puke.
Lovely I know.

Sigh.
It's a good thing he's cute.

Also, Floyd wants to wish his Grandma a very special happy birthday tomorrow!
From Floyd: "I weall rove you Gma and I rope you have a reat birthday and get rots of treats".
A special happy birthday to Katie too!

Have a great weekend, friends!!

Current Faves: Food and Drink

Jul 19, 2012

My food and drink obsessions definitely change with the seasons.
I usually crave light, airy, fruity and easy foods and drinks this time of the year.
Here are some things I am loving this summer.

Food

1. Cool Mint Clif Bars
I discovered these once I started running.
They taste just like thin mints and have protein.
Win win in my opinion.
2. Diet Sunkist
We all know I am a Diet Coke girl through and through
but sometimes I like to switch it up a little.
Diet Sunkist really hits the spot on those days.
3. Fresh Fruit
I think I have eaten my body weight in grapes, peaches,
 apples and cantalopethis summer.
I just can't get enough!
4. Blue Moon Margaritas
These are perfect for sitting by the pool or out on the lake
and simple to boot.
When we make them we do one part frozen mango margarita
 and the rest Blue Moon
There's a more detailed recipe here
5. Fire Crackers
This mix is perfect for munching on while by the pool
I'll do a recipe post on it soon!
I made it a few weekends ago and we could not stop eating it!

Does your pallet change with the seasons?
What are you loving right now?

Don't forget to enter my giveaway!!

Tonight I'm headed to my first Bacchanalian Society gathering
and I am so excited!
I have been wanting to do this forever!
Wine tasting and networking, yes please!

Prime

Jul 17, 2012

Guys, Mister and I have an obsession.
It's called Amazon Prime
In a nutshell it's $79 a year and you get free shipping on every (prime) item you buy from Amazon.
Free shipping. Every item.
So you order it, the shipping is free and it shows up on your door step in 2 days
(sometimes sooner).
We have already ordered enough this year to cover the $79.

We are now ordering everything and it's brother from Amazon.
I literally have a grocery style list going on on our fridge for our upcoming orders.

Hair products...Amazon
Poo bags...Amazon
Ladder...Amazon
(yes we ordered a 17' ladder-hey it was easier than trying to get it home in our car)
Phone Covers...Amazon
Headphones...Amazon
Books...Amazon
Electronics...Amazon
and more...much more.
Prime
We haven't branched out to the household products or food yet but just give us time.
I've got a case of Clif bars on my waiting list that will probably be on my doorstep soon.

My friends have stopped asking me where I get things because they know the answer is always Amazon.

Yes, this may seem a tad lazy but hey, it's hot out
and I am saving gas by not driving to Target as often.
Plus if it is something that can wait 2 days it really isn't a big deal.

I also have a handy Amazon app on my phone called "Price Check".
You can scan bar codes at stores and see if it is cheaper on Amazon.
I use this one alllll the time.

We are so obsessed with our Prime membership that I wanted to share it with you guys.
Who would I be if I wasn't telling you about a great deal?
Heck, I think a year subscription sounds like a great item for your Christmas list!
(hint, hint Mom)

Do you have Prime?

*P.S. I am not being compensated for this post.
Amazon has no idea who I am.
But if Amazon wants to send me things that's okay :)

Weekend Wrap Up: Eat and Sleep

Jul 16, 2012

We finally had a weekend at home and
it.was.glorious.
We had just about 0 plans and couldn't have been happier.
What we did do was eat.
And sleep.
We slept in both mornings.
I can't tell you the last time that happened.

Friday night we ended up meeting Pepper (Floyd's gf) and her parents at Lucky Dog.
Lucky Dog is an awesome restaurant close to our house
that encourages you to bring you dog.
They even have a doggie menu!
Saturday I met Liz and Lauren at Wildfire for lunch.
Their burger won Best Burger in Cincinnati a few years back
so, of course, I had to try it.
 Verdict: Delish!!
The bun was a Blue Oven Bakery (local bakery) english muffin.
The bun/muffin was probably the only downfall for me.
It was very good, but just a little thick for my liking.
The meat and toppings, however, were fantastic!

Saturday night Mister and I had a date night at Ferraris.
Again, deliciousness all around.
We had toasted ravioli for an appetizer
and I had the carbonara and Mister had the lasagna.
 Yum. yum. yum.

Sunday was spent being la-zy.
I made some freezer breakfast burritos and frosty paws for Floyd
and worked on some DIY projects.
You will have to wait to see those until after
my mama's birthday next week :)

I had forgotten what it is like to be home all day on
Saturday and Sunday.
 How was your weekend?

P.S. our meal plan for the week is here

Fridays with Floyd: Park

Jul 13, 2012

We often take Floyd to the dog park near our house so he can:
-socialize with other dogs
-exercise
-run off some energy
-have a change of scenery

Floyd does 0 of those things when we are at the park.
Instead he:
 Sits

Drools

 Wanders by himself

Drools

Ignores the other dogs

Judges the other dogs

Yawns (with drool)

And all of that wild and crazy activity at the park inevitably leads to this:

Going to the park is exhausting.

Randomness

Jul 11, 2012

Hey hey hey friends
I feel like I have a lot of random tidbits to fill you in on
So here we go

1. I ran a 5k
and it wasn't the one I was training for
  Say what?!
Well technically I ran/walked it but ran more than I walked!

Bethany texted me last Tuesday night and said she was
running one the next morning (on the 4th).
After hemming and hawing about it I decided to do it
and that it would be good practice.

And, it actually went pretty well!
I think it would have gone a lot smoother if it hadn't been SO humid.
But I finished in 31:49 and I was pretty happy with that.

I was able to cross it off my list!
Next stop, the Color Run!

2. New Sidebar Features
Have you noticed anything new on my sidebar??
I have been wanting an updated 'about me' section
and social media icons for awhile now.

I contacted House '09 (who originally  did my blog redesign)
and had them whip up some awesome new features!
I really like the way they turned out, don't you??
I highly recommend House '09 if you are looking for any updates for your blog!

3.  Lunch Blates
I have 2 blogger lunches this week!
First I'm meeting Anne for lunch today at Chipotle.
(come to Mama salty lime chips)
And Saturday I'm having lunch and poolin it with Lauren and Liz!

4. Lack of Floyd
I got some flack yesterday for no pictures of Floyd.
He was around last weekend but it was just too
hot for him to be outside much so I didn't snap any pictures of him.
Here's some cuteness for you...
Heeeeey guys. Heard you missed me.

5. Bookworm-out of control
I realized today that I am listening to 2 different books on tape
(1 while I run and 1 in the car).
I also have 2 other books started and my book club
book on hold at the library.
#nerdalert

6. Big Brother
The only thing getting me through the wait until the Bachelorette season finale
(July 22nd are you kidding me??)
is that Big Brother starts TOMORROW!
I love me some Big Brother
and the fact that it is on 3 nights a week makes it even better!
And Breaking Bad starts this weekend too!

I think that is enough randomness for one day!
Have a great one, friends!
