Total Basset Case: Recipe: Fig and Prosciutto Pizza

Recipe: Fig and Prosciutto Pizza

For our Valentine's meal at home last week we decided to make Fig and Prosciutto pizza!
We LOVE homemade pizza and I was already buying prosciutto for the champagne risotto that was on our menu so the pizza was a no brainer!

I used a combination of Pioneer Woman's recipe here and this recipe.

Fig and Prosciutto Pizza
-1 Pizza dough (I usually make my own but picked one up at Trader Joe's this time-it was really good, I'm not sure I'll make my own ever again.)
-Fig jam or butter (again, Trader Joe's had fig butter-amazing.  Like an apple butter consistency)
-5-8 slices of Prosciutto
-Parmesan (shavings) and mozzarella to cover

1. Preheat oven to 350
2. Prepare and roll out dough (if using TJ's set it out on the counter for about 20 minutes to get to room temperature)
3. Cover dough with fig jam or butter.  I was pretty liberal with mine, I probably used about 4-5 tablespoons
4. Cover fig butter with a mix of Parmesan and mozzarella
5. Bake for 12-15 minutes
6. Immediately when the pizza comes out of the oven spread prosciutto over cheese.  The heat will help the prosciutto sort of melt into the cheese and fig butter

No, I didn't make our crust into a heart shape...that would be weird...

Yum O! This pizza was quick and delicious...perfect for a weeknight meal.
It was a great salty sweet combo...my favorite combo in the world.

Speaking of salty sweet, I can't believe I forgot to tell you guys what we had a bite of at Beer Fest...doughnut burger...don't judge.
(Between that and the fried butter, we are on a roll this year.)
Now, I LOVE salty sweet but even this was a little much for me and one bite was plenty.
But now I can cross it off of things I've tried in life...ha.

If it has pizza in the name, I'm already sold! :) I'm not sure how I feel about the donut burger though, haha!

Oooh, I LOVE prosciutto, and I just got some yummy fancy fig jam (to make my Downton Abbey appetizers), so I see this in my near future... Thanks for sharing this yum!

p.s. I get my prosciutto at Trader Joe's - definitely good prices. We pretty much always have it around, and Peter makes fancy egg sandwiches with it for breakfast on the weekend.

Ummm how did I not know about this doughnut burger?!!!!!!! Seriously I would have tried that in a heartbeat. Instead I got the classic Mac and cheese at keystone right before we left.

I almost licked the computer screen. I really want to eat that doughnut. Not the burger and cheese...just the doughnut. :)

Oh I love this pizza...have you tried her bacon, potato and leek pizza? I love that one also. And oh yes, I have tried the Krispy Kreme burger at the Ohio State Fair. It is so good! We ended up sharing one because we felt like it was too much, but I could have probably eaten the whole thing...ha! Perfect combination of savory and sweet!

That is one PW I haven't made yet, but it's on my list. Looks delicious! And I will not judge you on the donut burger if you don't judge me when I say I've eaten and loved a grilled cheese donut. Ever been to Tom & Chee?

That pizza looks delish! And I actually thought it was really cute that it was a heart. I wouldn't have judged if you intended it to be that way! ;)
