15.5

I am going to go ahead and get this one out there.
We are one of those dorky couples that celebrates silly anniversaries.
Though I am sure you could guess this given the fun we have celebrating our wedding anniversary with traditional gifts.

But really it's only 3.
That's a reasonable amount, right?
They are all totally valid ones at least.
Wedding, first kiss and first 'I love yous'.
All significant moments in a relationship if you ask me.

I love all of our relationship celebration dates a lot but I do have a special place in my heart for June 10th.

15 1/2 years ago Mister and I were sitting on the sofa and had just finished watching Tin Cup.
He turned to me and said some really sweet words, words that I have always truly treasured.  Those words are between us but I can promise they made my heart melt.  And I just knew he would continue to make me swoon for years to come.  When you know, you know :)
(ironically this photo was taken at Top Golf...we like to keep the Tin Cup/golf story going strong)

All these years later he still melts my heart and I couldn't imagine it any other way ;)

And mushy post...out!

Weekend Wrap Up : Highs and Lows

Oh Monday, you are here way too soon once again.

The weather this weekend was nothing short of perfection and we did our best to spend a lot of it outside.
Friday night we hit up Lowes (which is our spring Friday evening tradition #hugedorks) and picked up a ton of flowers and veggies because we knew we wanted to plant all day Saturday.
Once Spring arrives we had a mild (I use that word lightly) obsession with planting and flowers.
If Lowes could go ahead and give us a gift card for about a million dollars to buy ALL the flowers that would be great.
Saturday went as planned and we planted our little hearts out.
Floyd even got in on the action.
Did you know the latest trend in gardening was to have your dog SIT on your flowers?
It works wonders...
We also planted our raised vegetable garden.
We are starting small this year and using a palette for our first go 'round.
A full DIY on the process will be coming to a blog near you shortly!
Floyd was extremely helpful in that planting process too...

Sunday did not go as planned, thanks to Floyd.
We woke up Sunday morning and he was just not acting like himself.  He wouldn't walk, get off our bed and was breathing strangely.
We could just tell he was not himself and we decided to take him to the emergency vet.
Not the ideal place to spend our Sunday but in the he turned out to be okay.
Initially we thought something was possibly stuck in his throat #panic
They did X-rays and watched him for a while and he seemed to come around and thankfully did not have anything stuck.  He sure did scare us though.
Needless to say our planned picnic did not happen but we did get some quality snuggling time in with our buddy.  We are just thankfully he is fine.  Lots of rest is in his future.
That and a chicken and rice diet which he does not seem to mind at all.

Weekend Wrap Up : Celebrating 5

With our anniversary on Friday we knew we wanted an entire weekend of celebrating.
And celebrate we did!

Friday before dinner we exchanged our wood themed gifts.
Guys, Mister did so well.
Drumroll...
A picnic basket because it is made out of wood!
Genius!
I am already planning an assortment of snacks to fill this adorable basket with and enjoy some Spring weather at a local park!
I gave Mister a WeWood watch...which I totally failed to photograph but it is this one.
A watch, made of wood! And I thought I was the clever one.  He did better than me, once again!
My plan is to have a 'wood' gift guide up later this week for more ideas.
Ironically, Mister said he almost got me one of the watches as well.
They say you've been together too long when... ;)
For dinner we headed to Red Feather in Oakley.
Oh my lanta.
The wine was amazing, whipped ricotta on grilled bread, salmon with a crisp outer layer, melt in your mouth short ribs...it was all to do die for.
I am still dreaming about this meal.
I recently had my rehearsal dinner dress altered so I wore that to dinner along with my most favorite bright pink wedding shoes.  I am huge dork and love to try to wear my shoes every year with my dinner outfit.

And then, of course, it was wedding dress time.
Floyd was not really into our photo shoot.
I will, again, fully acknowledge my dorkiness BUT I LOVE my dress and I love this silly excuse to put it back on each year.

Other weekend highlights included enjoying a bottle of wine we had been saving, popping into Famous Footwear for some shoe shopping and the outlets for Spring clothes.
The man knows the way to my heart...wine and shoes and clothes.  And adorable picnic baskets.

Saturday night we headed over to Katie's for a chili cook off a round of the Newlywed game...only appropriate for our anniversary weekend, right?  I have to say Mister and I did pretty well!

5

We did it, Mister!
5 years of wedded bliss!
Good thing we had 10 years of dating to practice up to this point ;)

I am over the moon every single day to be married to my best friend, closest confidant, person who makes me laugh and smile on a  daily basis.  I can't imagine doing this life with anyone else (and Floyd, duh!).  Every day is a new adventure and I can't wait to see was the next 555 years bring us :)

Happy anniversary to the cutest, most handsome man I know.

P.s. we all know this means I will be putting my wedding dress on tonight...it's almost my favorite part of our anniversary each year.
And you know how much I love the traditional gifts...5 years is wood.
I will have a gift guide up next week...couldn't do this week or Mister would know his gift!

When Pigs Fly...

....used to be my response when people asked me if I would ever become a runner.
My, my, my how the tides have changed.

This weekend marked my 4th half marathon in the books and it was none other than the Cincinnati Flying Pig.
The race of races here in the 'Nati.
I've heard about the Pig for years and never in a million did I really think I'd ever run it.
I had heard it was a great race, but a tough, hilly course.
And you know what, they weren't lying.
It was very tough and hilly and the type of course that wants to take you out for the count.
But, I didn't let it take me out.
I won't lie, it wasn't the easiest or best run I've ever had.
And there was a moment or two I wanted to die.
And my brand new, really awesome Spotify playlist wouldn't work (grrrr)
BUT I did it and I'm happy to say that I conquered it.
My legs still aren't real happy with me but that's nothing that can't be fixed!
Expo | Day of goods - bib, honey stingers, jolly ranchers, Luna bar

2 states (KY and OH) and 13.1 miles later, it's another half for the books!

This was the first 'big' race I had participated in and it was leaps and bounds above the other ones.
Even at moments when the race wasn't going all that great, the crowd support, fans, hysterical signs and spectators to look at really made all the difference in the world.  I mean how bad can it when you see a sign that says 'I like pig butts and I can not lie'?
And a special shout out especially to Mister who was my early morning driver and met me at a couple different spots on the course to cheer me on!  Seeing a familiar face among thousands of strangers really puts an extra pep in your step.

And even though I didn't PR, I did do it in 2:06 and that wasn't too far off from my goal.
I'll admit, at first I was slightly disappointed in myself and my time but the more I thought about it, the better I began to feel.  It is a very tough course and on that particular day and the conditions (music not working, not having a running buddy), I did the best I could and that's all that matters.
As I've said before, there are good running days and bad ones and you just have to take them as they come.

The earlier part of our weekend was spent primarily in our yard.  We hit up Lowes, stocked up on plants, flowers, mulch and veggies to plant and got to work!
I'll have a full report soon on what all we've planted and how it's doing.
I may not have the best green thumb, but I sure do like experimenting out in the soil.  With gloves on of course, I hate for my hands to actually be dirty.

Running in beautiful weather and flowers out in our yard; it was a really great, Spring, sunshine filled weekend!

May 1, 2014

Currently...

I haven't done a currently, well lately and thought it was high time for one!
(this photo has nothing to do with this but it's too funny not to share. Snuggle buddies to the max.)

Thinking...about the dress I finallllly ordered for our big event.  You will have to wait for the big reveal but I'm very excited about it. And, it is one of the ones on my list!
Shopping....for earrings and shoes to go with said dress.  That's where you can find me this weekend.
Reading...'Life List' (recommended by Casey) and 'reading' in my car, 'Fifth Assassin' - both are great. Very, very different but great.  I also just finished 'Brain on Fire' - definitely recommend that one.
Waiting...on the new Charlie book to arrive so Floyd and I can have nighttime story time again soon.
Planning...some Spring cleaning and sprucing up around the house this weekend.
Planting...herbs, veggies and flowers!
Wishing...all my girlfriends lived in my neighborhood and we could have wine every night.
Thankful...for Mister.  Yeah I went there, mushy. But he's pretty great.
Needing...these summer wedges.  I've been eyeing them and after Katie and Sarah raved about them, I know it's a sign that Old Navy wants me to have them.
(However I did just get these in the mail...too similar?)
Listening...to Spotify.  I just discovered this. How?! Where have I been? #judgeaway
Loving...this Spring time weather perfect for running.
Watching...Mad Men, thank goodness it's back on.

And that's what's been going on.
What's going on with you?!

Floyd is dreaming of all of the loves in his life
Hope everyone has a LOVEly day!

And I'll be back with more next week but Floyd and I want to wish Mister a super happy birthday on Sunday!

Best. Chili. Ever.

In our house we love big, hearty soups.
And chili is no exception.
I'm the type of person that's never made the same chili twice.
But, after this one I may have to start.

Not to toot my own horn, but this was really good.
And if you don't believe me, here's evidence from Mister when he finished off the leftovers while I was at dinner with friends.
See? It must be good if Mister said so!
(just don't tell his mom because she makes some pretty darn good chili herself!)

I loosely started with this from Skinnytaste and kept adding.

Best Chili Ever (according to Mister)
Ingredients
Olive oil
1 lbs ground turkey
1 onion, diced
Red wine (a splash for the meat and enough for a glass or two for you)
1 large sweet potato, chopped
1 can black beans, drained
1 can kidney beans, drained
1 can diced tomatoes (chili ready)
1 can 8oz tomato sauce
1 can crushed tomatoes (large)
salt to taste
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp garlic salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp everyday seasoning (Trader Joes, could omit)
1 cup cooked quinoa (optional)
1 bay leaf

1. Coat bottom of soup pot or Dutch oven with olive oil.  Add diced onions and ground turkey.  Cook until onions are translucent and meat is browned.  Add a splash of red wine.
2. Add the rest of the ingredients.
3. Let simmer for about 30 minutes (or more if you can!), remove the bay leaf and ENJOY!
Delicious and easy!
With the threat of super cold temperatures and snow (!) in our parts, you can bet this chili will be appearing in our kitchen again very soon!

Blogtember : Comfy

Please excuse my absence yesterday, told you I was breaking the rules this week...

Day 14: React to the term, 'comfort'

The first thing I think of when I hear 'comfort' is Mister, in many forms.

First off, just being around, near and with Mister is comforting to me.
His presence puts me at ease and just knowing he's near makes me feel better.
Not too mention, he's pretty comfy to snuggle with too.
Though Floyd is a close second.

Secondly being with clothes. Whenever I try on clothes and ask Mister if he likes them (because let's be honest, husbands have to be our in house fashion critics) his first response is always, 'is it comfy?'
And, every time, I laugh.
He loves for me to be comfortable at all times, whether that be in life or, apparently, clothes.
There are times when he thinks comfy clothes look better than every day outfits or shoes.
And I do have to agree with him to an extent...BUT us girls know that sometimes, cute wins out over comfort.  This is one girl concept, he's yet to understand.
But can you really deny the comfy-ness of good sweatpants and a cozy hoodie, especially now that the weather is turning cooler?

And lastly...this one has really mastered the term comfort, to the fullest extent.
If that doesn't say comfort, I don't really know what does.

What is comfort to you?
What's on the agenda for your weekend?

Weekend Wrap Up: A Day Late

Sorry for the radio silence yesterday...we had quite the weekend and relaxing won out over blogging Sunday night.
Moving on to that great weekend...
Friday I helped Bethany set up for her wedding reception/celebration and then headed to Lowes to pick up some paint for my bathroom.
All was going well...and then it wasn't.
I came home, said hi to my boys, sat my paint can down to pet Floyd.
I then went to pick up the bag with the can, it slipped and the can fell over.
Not a huge deal you would think....
WRONG. Big, huge, deal and MESS.
The lid wasn't on tight enough and the can opened and PAINT WENT EVERYWHERE.
Thankfully, it fell on our ceramic tile and it was a light color.
Things could have been way, way worse.
I contacted Lowes via Twitter and on the phone and I was very impressed with their customer service.  They ended up giving me (a nicer) new quart of paint.
The real kicker is Mister was waiting on me to get home because he had been working all evening to surprise me by taking down everything in my bathroom and taping it all off like a rock star. I totally ruined the moment by yelling profanities in the kitchen.  However, all of his work did not go unnoticed, thanked or appreciated! He is a gem!

Saturday started bright and early with a new (to me) running club.  It was humid and hot and hard but I did 6.5 miles before 9am and was pretty happy about that.
The rest of the day was full of house stuff/DIY and two parties that evening.
One being Bethany's wedding celebration (!!) and then a party at work.

Sunday was all about celebrating Katie's birthday with DELICIOUS brunch at Taste of Belgium.  I finished up my bathroom (reveal later this week) and for dinner we celebrated with National Ice Cream day at Graeters!

Phew and I'm tired all over again!
Hope everyone had a great weekend!!

The Luna bar winners are: Caitlin and Shannon! Congrats ladies, I'll be in touch!

3 Year Wedding Anniversary Gift Guide: Leather

Our 3 year anniversary is tomorrow (time flies when you're having fun and hanging out with your BFF every day).
And besides being lovey dovey and looking through our wedding album, gifts are always one of my favorite parts of the day.  That and the steak we are planning on eating.

Starting with our first year of marriage we began giving each other variations of the 'traditional' anniversary gifts each year.
I like the challenge of finding something within the genre and getting creative with the gifts each year.
Last year the challenge was cotton and I made Mister this.
And for our first year (paper) together I gave him tickets to a comedy show.

Also I like to see what Mister comes up with because he is one heck of a thoughtful gift giver.
For instance, since last year was 'cotton' he gave me a gift certificate for a manicure/pedicure because they use cotton to take your old polish off.  He's a thoughtful one that Mister.

As I was racking my brain (and the internet) for leather ideas I was finding more and more that there aren't that many out there.

I thought I would put together a list of some ideas that I came across for all of your ladies out there searching for gift ideas.

Phone Case | Travel Kit | Wallet | Shoes | Belt

I think most of these are self explanatory and fit within the 'leather' realm.  I also think that these are things that all guys would love to get.  A few of my guy friends have that J.Crew phone case and love it.  The more you use the it, the better, more worn and broken in it looks.  An idea for the travel kit is to go ahead and fill it with with travel size toiletries and then your man is half way packed for his next trip.  I love the gray boat shoes by Sperry but Target also recently came out with a similar pair that are just as cute.  Nice, classic dress shoes for work are also an option.

Now, what I got Mister may or may not be on this list.
Time will only tell ;) but I can't spill the beans quite yet.
I'll share our gifts to each other later this week!

Do you stick to the traditional anniversary gifts?
If so, what did you give as a 'leather' gift?

Weekend Wrap Up: Birthday Weekend

Whoa, we had a weekend!
Mister says a HUGE thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes!
We lived it up for his big day!

I am still trying to recover so I'll let the pictures do the talking today.

Friday our friends Laura and Bobby came into town to help us celebrate.
We went to dinner at Enoteca Emilia...SO good.
Cincinnati ladies, you must go if you haven't!
Saturday we showed our guests around town, ventured to Jungle Jims, did a little shopping at the outlets and celebrated Mister's birthday with presents and cupcakes!

Saturday night we headed to the Cincy Beer Fest with Derek and Katie and a big group of friends!
We had never been to Beer Fest before but had the BEST time.
They gave us mini steins for the tastings...they were adorable and I was obsessed with them.

Sunday was spent recovering, birthday dinner with Mister's parents and taking care of Mr. Floyd.
He hurt he shoulder somehow :( We can not really figure out what exactly is wrong or what he did but we do know that he did something.  It is breaking my heart to see him whimper in pain but he's slowly getting better with lots of love and snuggles.
If he could talk it would really make things easier.

How was your weekend??

Happy Birthday Mister!

Floyd and I are popping in quickly today to say a big
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Mister (tomorrow)!!
I'll spare you guys the mushy stuff but I do want to say to Mister...
I LOVE you so much and am honored to be your wife and celebrate another birthday (the 14th one in fact) with you! You are the bestest husband to me and papa to Floyd.  You make me laugh every single day.  I love your kind heart and that you will do anything in the world to make me smile.  You deserve the best birthday and I hope that is what the weekend holds for you! I may or may not have a few tricks up my sleeve to ensure that it's a good one ;)

Come back on Monday to see what went down over the birthday weekend or follow along on instagram (totalbassetcase).

(you can check out Mister's surprise birthday to Chicago last year here and here)

Have a fabulous weekend everyone!!

Birthday Treats for Mister

I mentioned yesterday that someone in our house (the one I'm married to, not the 4 legged one) has a birthday coming up this weekend!
I've also mentioned that I kinda LOVE birthdays and think a HUGE deal should be made of them.
Hey, why not??
So, of course, Mister's definitely needs to be a production of fun and all of his favorite things.  Treats, favorite foods, friends, and, course, presents!

Well if you guys need to know anything about Mister it's that he loves anything peanut butter and chocolate.
Anything Reeses is his ultimate downfall and he will eat them until the cows come home.
He LOVES them.

Enter the wonderful world of Pinterest, where everything ever created with peanut butter and chocolate is at my fingertips.  I seem to have pinned every single item,  all in preparation for Mister's birthday.
It dawned on me that I couldn't possibly make all of those treats for his birthday (even though I'm pretty sure he wouldn't complain if I did) so I should probably narrow them down to the ones that looked the best (and didn't require 47 steps) and let him choose.
I know, I know, I am so nice, letting him choose his birthday treat rather than me deciding.

Here are the choices I gave him:
Which would you choose?
Which do you think he chose?

You will have to come back next week to see!!

Weekend Wrap Up and Sponsor Opportunities!

There are some exciting things going on around neck of the woods this week that make this Monday a little more tolerable!
But just a little, it is still a Monday after all.
You will have to stay tuned to find out what all is going, BUT it may or may not include a birthday for the best husband in the world and some other fun adventures.

Friday night we had dinner at Tanos with our friends Chris and Autumn.
They have been telling us of it's deliciousness for awhile now and we were excited to check it out.

Verdict: they weren't lying.
I had the short ribs and went to bed a happy lady.
#ootn and Floyd TOTALLY photo bombing me.
I didn't even realize he was in the picture until I posted it.

Saturday I headed home to spend the rest of the weekend with my mama.
We had brunch, ran errands, went to dinner, devoured blizzards (we are firm believers that it is NEVER too cold for ice cream) and rounded out the evening with Pitch Perfect.  I laughed the whole lay through it, again.

And I had a stand in blog helper over the weekend, Miss Sophie!
Sunday
I came back home and Mister surprised me with starting to paint our guest room!
We had some left over paint from our frame wall and had been wanting to paint it for awhile now.
He did some other odds and ends around the house too, he's a keeper ;)
We finished it up Sunday night and I really like the way it turned out!

And for some super exciting news...Total Basset Case is now accepting sponsors!!!
For now, there are 2 options available: the Chunky Paw (1 large) and the Floppy Ears (5 medium).  All of the ads will run for 30 days at a time and the medium ads will be rotated with every click.
Check out the sponsor page here.
Let me know if you have any questions or if you want to sponsor!
There may still be a few kinks to work out so bare with me as I navigate this new adventure here on TBC!

Cheers to a great week of LOVE!

A 2nd Tutorial by Mister

You guys are in for a treat today - Mister is back with another one of his tutorials.
(and usual commentary...in italics)

We all know that I love wine.
But getting into my beloved bottles can sometimes be a problem. (It shouldn't be).
We were kindly gifted a rabbit wine opener for our wedding.
Problem is, I can NEVER use that thing. (Which is baffling).
Every single time I do I end up shoving the cork back into the bottle.
This actually causes quite the mess and can splatter wine all over your apartment ceiling.
Not that I speak from experience or anything.... (We lost our deposit).
Well turns out I'm not the only one with this issue. (Oh, well then...)
I have spoken with quite a few girlfriends that also have an issue using that dang thing.
And I knew that if my IRL friends were having issues, chances are my blog friends are too.
Let's just say thank goodness my mama got me an electric one for my birthday.
#lovethatthing

Well Mister thinks that it is ridiculous that the girls and I can NOT use the rabbit opener.
So he is here today to give us a detailed tutorial on how use that dang contraption ridiculously simple tool.

Take it Mister.

It has come to my attention that there is a rousing discussion between Sarah and some of her friends regarding the wine rabbit and its ease of use.  That such a discussion exists, is in a word, interesting...

Alright, I'm not trying to be condescending or anything, but it's not that hard.
As such, I'll be giving you a step-by-step tutor--- I can't believe I'm typing this out.  Ok, just look at the pictures and follow along.  It's four steps, five at best.  No, check that, it's four.  It's four steps people.

1.  You get the wine rabbit out of the drawer.  This is critical.  I can't stress this enough: the thingy that opens the bottle needs to be present before proceeding.

2.  You clamp the rabbit on to the neck of the bottle with the lever back, and the corkscrew up.  This seems fairly self explanatory, but don't want any of you just smashing the rabbit into the bottle mercilessly screaming "gimme gimme gimme!," now do we?
3.  You push the lever (and thus the corkscrew) down into the cork.  See?  Still with me?  Great.
4.  You pull the lever back up.  The corkscrew will pull the cork out.
Then you drink the wine. (Ed. note: with your mouths).  That's it.

Thankkkks Mister.
I think in order to make sure these steps work, I better try it on a bottle tonight.
What do we think?
Does anyone else have an issue with the rabbit? Please don't tell me my friends and I the only ones!

If you missed Mister's first tutorial on the DIY canvas, check that out here.

Turkey Eve

Yay it's Turkey eve!
The day for seeing all of your friends and family and trying on your elastic waist pants.

I am joining up with Shanna for her second round of 'Random Wednesday'.
I found some really great blogs who had linked up last week so I suggest you get over there and check out all of the other awesome ladies.

1. I'm contemplating using the picture of Floyd at the table with us for our Christmas card.
Would that really make us those crazy dog people?
(see here if you don't know what I'm talking about)

2. I've done my fair share of baking already for Thanksgiving and I can not wait to dive into everything!
(Mister has already taste tested a little- he said it was only right, we wouldn't want to serve something that was bad.)
So far I've made a pumpkin roll (recipe from Kait), PW's Good Morning Muffins and we are currently on our 4th (in 2 weeks) batch of energy balls.
I am also going to make a derby pie for our second round of Thanksgiving meals.
(Is derby pie just a midwest thing? Do you know what I'm talking about?)

3. Who is going shopping on Friday?
We are definitely planning on braving the crowds.
I don't have anything particular that I am on the hunt for but I love being in the middle of the hustle and bustle.

4. Please read this article, you won't regret it.

6. This.
I mean, there isn't even an explanation. He is just a total weirdo.
Gettin his lean on.

5. Seeing as it is Turkey Eve, I thought it was only right to talk about a few things I am so very thankful for this time of the year

-Family: my boys, my mom, my extended family, my in laws.
I am so thankful to be surrounded by such amazing people.
-Friends: I have an amazing set of girlfriends in my life and do not know what I would do without them.
 These ladies rock.

This means you too, my incredible blog friends, as well!
I love you ladies and never expected this blog community to be so welcoming and amazing.
I am so happy to have all of you friends in my life!
-Food and wine: I just really love to eat, cook and be in the kitchen.
And kitchen gadgets. Man, I love a good kitchen gadget.
-Holidays and traditions: I am always excited to reminisce about past holiday traditions and especially glad to start new ones this year at Thanksgiving and Christmas.
-My Job: I have the pleasure of working on some really cool projects and with very interesting products.
I have a very fun project we've been working on coming up to show you guys!
I could go on and on (diet coke, shopping, sweatpants, ice cream...) BUT I'll stop for now.

I think that is about enough randomness for today!
Floyd and I are taking the rest of the week off to spend time with friends and family.
Follow along on Instagram (totalbassetcase) to keep up with what we are doing.
Enjoy your Thanksgiving friends!!

DIY: Striped Canvas

Note: Mister sometimes questions the "accuracy" of his quotes, or the way he's portrayed in these posts.  For example, I told him I was going to do a post about his DIY project, and he said "what is there to say?"  So I showed him what I had typed up so far... he said "I think you're churching it up a little bit, don't you?"  So I said, "well then why don't you give me your version."  As such, what follows is our two differing accounts.  Mister's comments are in italics.

Guys, we have another DIYer in the house.
I am not a 'DIYer.'
Mister did his very own DIY project this weekend while I was away.
How fun is that?
I painted a canvas, calm down.

Almost a year ago I made a canvas to go in our bedroom that read,
'You have my whole heart for my whole life'.
Thanks Pinterest.
Well, the canvas started to warp a few months ago, so we decided we wanted something else to go up there.
Oh we did, did we?

Since I did the first canvas, Mister told me that he would be more than happy to create and design the next one!
I think I said 'Fine, I'll do something about it. Can we go back to sleep now?'
I think it was something that he just said in passing, [that's exactly what it was], but hey, fine by me!
So we ventured out to Michaels and Hobby Lobby [yayayay!!] to pick up his supplies and away he went!

Supplies needed:
-large canvas (size of your choice) from Michaels/Hob Lob [please stop calling it 'Hob Lob'], with a coupon, duh
-spray paint (he ended up using 2 cans)
-accent paint
-painters tape
-foam brush

FYI - turns out the Frog Tape 'Delicate' is garbage. What's that you say, you make a tape designed for painting projects that won't stick to any surface? Or paint?  And its only $9 a foot?  I'll take it! Thirty seconds in to me putting the tape down, it falling off, and me putting it back on again, I was ready to start punching things.  Frog Tape is the worst.

1.Using painters tape, tape off areas you do NOT want painted the overall color
2. Spray entire canvas (with sweeping motion) with spray paint and let dry
3. Carefully remove painters tape to (hopefully) reveal crisp, white areas where the tape was

 4. Reapply tape the outer edges of your design
5. Using a foam brush (or small roller) paint the white areas
 6. Quickly and carefully remove the tape
7. Hang up your canvas and stand back and admire your artwork
 8. Thank the bestest hubs in the world for creating such an awesome piece for your home!
I LOVE it and get so happy every time I walk in our room now!

1. Buy a canvas.  It'll come white.
2.  Paint it a different color.  Doesn't matter what.
3. If you want stripes or something, tape that area off first.  If not, skip this step.
4. Hang it on the wall. Or don't. Whatever. If it's big enough, you can just leave it on the floor leaning against the wall, and when friends come to visit they'll be all like 'oh I love that piece! It feels like a loft in here!' SO EDGY.
5. Bask in the glory of your wife's compliments.

And that, my friends, is a day in the life here at our house.
Conversations similar to these happen all the time.
If I can say one thing about the hubs, it is definitively that he keeps me laughing.
