Fridays with Floyd: Floyd's Resolutions

Fridays with Floyd is BACK!
Floyd came to me and told me he wanted to share his resolutions with you.
And while most people shared their resolutions last week, bassets aren't ones to do anything quickly.
So, in Floyd time, he is right on schedule.

Take it away, Bud.

Hello friends!!
My mama and papa are always harping on me to do this and do that but I have decided that these resolutions are going to be things that I WANT to do this year.
Without further adieu...
1.  Learn to shake. They have reallllly been pushing this one on me. The keep tempting me with boiled chicken, peanut butter and treats galore, but I just can not seem to conquer this one.  The problem is that I just do not have very good balance and taking one paw off the ground makes me nervous!  I think they would be really impressed if I could do it though.  I promise I am working on it!  Not that I am minding all of the treats though...
2. Wipe my own paws. The parents really insist on wiping all of my paws (and ears and belly) every time I come inside when it's nasty out.  It just drives me nuts! If I could just do it myself life would be a lot easier. Although, I do get a treat afterwards if I don't freak out on them so maybe I can deal with it...
3. Learn to type. I keep hearing that I get all kinds of fan (e)mail, tweets, texts and even a few packages in the mail.  Well, I would really love to respond to all of my fans on my own.  I think Mama probably does a pretty good job thanking everyone but I think I could do a better job.  She clearly doesn't add enough slobber to the thank yous.
And while on the subject of using the computer, I need to tell Mama I want to start a Skype with Floyd series so I can interact with all of you lovelies.  What do we think of that?
4. Become more stubborn. If I do say so myself, I am really good at being stubborn.  But when you are great at something, you can always get better, right?  I like to live by the motto, 'I'll do what I want, when I want' and I execute it pretty well, if I do say so myself.  The parents don't seem to be a huge fan of this but we all know I run this show.
5. Nap more. Again, something that I excel at but can always get better.  There are a few hours a day I am not napping and could definitely squeeze a few more minutes of shut eye.  I need to work on not getting up every single time one of the parents makes a move or goes to another room.

And there you have it, my friends.
Wish me luck accomplishing these resolutions!

Oh wow, Floyd, I'm not sure you are going to be left alone with the blog anymore.
I would really love if you learned to shake though.  I'm not sure about being more stubborn, you are plenty stubborn enough as it is.  If anything, maybe you should work on being less stubborn. Let's focus on that.

And we would like to say a very special HAPPY BIRTHDAY (tomorrow) to our dog blog soul mate Kait!
We hope you have a fabulous day pretty lady!!! Tell Maddie to bake you a cake and bring you all the Diet Cokes you want!

Resolution Bandwagon

I may be a day late but I'm joining the blogging bandwagon of 2013 resolutions.
For the past two years the Mister and I have made a yearly goals list that we hang on our fridge.
And we plan on doing this this year as well...started working on it last night in fact.
I am a firm believer that hanging these goals and resolutions on the fridge motivate and remind us to accomplish them.

But, this year I wanted that list to be more specific (i.e. that I could cross off) and for my resolutions to be things I could constantly be working on through the year.
And, that my friends, is how a crazy list maker turns one list making event into two separate events.
I need list making intervention.

Without further adieu, my 2013 resolutions:

1. Simplify and balance. I need to focus on being content doing nothing and not obsessing over having to be doing something at every moment of the day. With this comes learning how to balance everything that is going on in my life.  And knowing it's okay if everything on my list doesn't get crossed off immediately.  I think remembering to take a deep breath and concentrate on spending time with my boys and friends will be vital to accomplish this.
2. Healthiness. This is a pretty easy one for the Mister and I but I wanted it on the list so that it is a constant reminder.  I have a post coming up soon on our healthy habits and how we've changed our ways (for the better) recently.
3. Budget. Easy enough but we need to be more diligent about it.  We have a few house projects that we would love to accomplish this year and budgeting will certainly help us get them done. I totally failed at registering for mint.com last year...let's hope I can accomplish that one this year.
4.House Maintenance. This includes things like mulching, raking, cleaning the gutters.  These are not ever always the most fun jobs but are necessary to maintain our home and help get the most out of it in the future.  I can get on board with changing out some light fixtures and painting though!

And that is what we are starting with and aiming to accomplish over the next 12 months.
I'll be back next week with my (and Mister's) actual goals for the year...the concrete items we want to tackle (and cross off) in the upcoming year.

And because every post needs a picture...here's one of Floyd that Mister shot with the new 50mm lens.
This was probably his reaction after he heard his face was made into a cake.

2012 Goals

I know I am a little late to this whole 'resolutions' party
but, hey
better late than never, right?

And just so you know, I did write down these goals a few days ago so really I'm just late on posting them!

Last year the Mister and I put together a 2011 resolution list and hung it on our fridge.
We did pretty well if I do say so myself...
We completed19/32 of our goals.
Yes we could have done better ...
but that's what a new year is for, isn't it?

Here are our top goals for this year!
(P.S. I find it really helps to have these posted on the fridge as a daily reminder)

  1.  Organize office: This is a constant battle but I am determined to keep it under wraps this year.
  2. Eat healthy be healthy: This one is more of a reminder.  Currently I am doing the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (and she's kicking my butt) and the Mister just started P90X2. So far, so good!
  3.  Bed frame: We could really use a headboard...I've contemplated making one but I'm not sure if I have those skillz.
  4.  Organize and use recipes: This really has be to accomplished for my sanity and the sake of our meal planning
  5.  Church: This was on our list last year and we put exactly 0 effort toward it.  We will begin our 'church shopping' this weekend.
  6.  Finish Floyd’s Stocking: I need about 2 rainy afternoons and this should be done.
  7.  Start Holiday Prep (baking, crafting, decorating) Earlier (October): Enough said.
  8.  Camera Class: I want to be able to fully utilize my new toy!
  9.  Honeymoon Photo Album: I just bought a Groupon to do this! 2 years later, NBD.
  10.  Blog Growth: I am very excited about this one...I love seeing this little corner of my world grow.  Any suggestions on the best way to do this are greatly appreciated!
  11.  Sewing Machine Magic: Pillow shams and sprucing up our master bedroom window treatments here I come!
  12.  Sign up for and utilize Mint.com: Just common sense.
  13. Run a 5k???: Okay, this one is a far stretch.  Last year my goal that was a stretch was this blog and that seems to be going well :) So while I may need a lot of encouragement on this one I'm excited to see how it turns out! (p.s. I'm thinking of following the Couch to 5k program)
So there it is!
We have a few more but I didn't want to totally bore you.

What are your biggest goals of the new year?

Resolutions

Now that we are a few weeks into June I thought it was time to check in on our New Year's Resolution list.

The Mister and I complied a list at the beginning of 2011 and placed it on our fridge for a daily reminder of what we were working towards.  By January, we felt we had lived in our house long enough to determine what projects/areas we wanted to tackle in the upcoming year.  Other than house projects, we also included fitness, health and organization goals.

If you know me, you know I love a good list.  And even more than a making a list, I love crossing things off a list.
We have successfully accomplished about a 1/3 of our list.  Some of the items on the list may never get fully crossed off but are things we are constantly working towards.  If we counted those items I would say we are closer to 1/2 way done.  These items include: budgeting, eating healthy, traveling to see friends, etc.  All in all, I have to say I think we have done pretty well!

Sarah at Everyday Easy recently wrote about her to-do list(s) and how she has a 'need' to do and a 'want' to do list.  I love this is a fantastic idea! I think next year we will separate our list like this and also be working toward our 'wants'.

There are definitely things that we have thought of after we made the list and have been trying to tackle those as well.  It may be a never ending process but I love it and it's fun to tackle these items with the Mister.

Did you make a resolution(s)? How are coming along?
